Hello all, am new to the forum and have been reading alot! I have been searching but haven't come up with anything. Hopefully one fo you guys can help me. I am contemplating swaping to a manual trans, and I have a few parts laying around just wondering if they will work. I have the original 225 v6 flywheel and 3 spd bell housing. Will the flywheel work on a 455? and what trannys will the bell housing work with. Will a BW T5 fit on this bell housing? And can I use the original V6 Z bar and clutch linkage, or will i have to use a throwout/hydraulic slave cylinder? I would appreciate any input. Thanks -Walter
It is a 67 special. I pulled out the v6 and 3 on the tree and adapted the shift linkage to shift the th400 that is now behind the 455. The th400 lost high gear, and I would rather have a straight shift.
Bell-housing, clutch linkage, and z-bar, yes. Flywheel, no... It will fit the sbb so sell it. And a BW T5 will fit but would last right untill you tried to pull outou: The best World-Class T5s are only rated at about 300lb-ft of torque, the worst BBB has much more than that. Find a saginaw 4spd, they are still around for cheep if you keep an eye out. A T-10 or muncie cost a pile and are usually expensive overkill.
What about the z bar and clutch lincage. will they fit with my TA headers? Also how will the old 3 speed that was behind the original v6 hold up to a 445. thinking about bringing back the 3 on the tree. Im not planning on driving this car too hard. Thanks for the input so far. on another note. ive had a WC T5 behind a strong 355 in my camaro. been driven pretty hard for 10 years since i built the motor and swaped the 305. Seems like a good tranny to me. Im not planning on doing second gear burnouts or anything
Cant say on the headers, but you can use the 3speed for mockup/fitment. The old 3speed will hold up just as well as a 4speed or better and the 3 on da tree would be cool:TU: Ive had several T5s and they are good trannies, but... What kills straight-drive trannys isnt HP, its LB-FT. A stout running SBC isnt going to have nearly the torque of a stock BBB. Even a bone-stock, low-comp, smog-era 455 Buick puts out over 400lb-ft. A '70 model puts out over 500lb-ft stock. Its nothing for a modified BBB to put out 550-600lb-ft:eek2: By comparison, the mighty-mouse '70 Vette LT1 with its 11-1 comp, doublehump heads, and solid cam... Made a whopping 380lb-ft:shock:
