I am adding a consolette to my car 70 GS. Can I use the original non-console boot as the lower boot, or is it too tall? I ordered an upper consolette boot from OPGI. Any idea on the quality? Thanks
You can use your original boot as the lower. In fact, to my knowledge no one reproduces the original consolette lower boot. The upper boot may be a tad shinier than original, but should fit well. Good Luck!
CARS, Inc makes a lower consolette boot. It's not pretty, but it's under the consolette so who cares. http://www.oldbuickparts.com
Do you have the part number of the consolette upper shifter boot from OPGI or any other source? I'm having a hard time finding one.
Both the upper and lower consolette boots are made by Metro molded rubber products. The upper boot is a little different than the original, but it's better than nothing. The original trim rings may not fit due to the excessive thickness of the boot. The lower consolette boot is very different from the non consolette boot. And yes, its real ugly and IMO poorly made. But it fits and functions the same.
From Year One: RP33Z Upper shifter boot for 1965-1967 GS models and 1968-1972 models with consoles. $45.95
I recently purchased the upper boot for my consolette from Year One. The rubber is a little shinier with a different texture than the original however looks fine in my opinion.
