Concours question- painted bypass hose?

Discussion in 'Chassis restoration' started by CJay, Jul 15, 2024.

Shouldn't the bypass hose be painted engine color? Wasn't that hose I stalled prior to the engine being painted?

I noticed every concours restored car at the BCA nats had an unpainted hose. This may be a good question for @Duane . I'd be interested in hearing his opinion too

yes it was painted. Many will elect not to paint...we do not deduct typically for unpainted bypass hose.

“Historically”, and I say this with the caveat that I am not sure what they are doing now, we allowed the hose and clamps to be painted or unpainted with no deductions.

Yes those hoses were painted with the engines, so yes if you have a survivor car then they should be painted, but on a “restored” car we allowed the owners to “over-restore” some parts with no deductions.

This same type of thing was allowed for body overspray, distributors painted/non-painted, as well as fuel pumps, staggers vs non-staggers on the GSX stripes, etc.

Also regarding oil filters, again historically we allowed them to be either painted red (as original) or left white with the decals on them. However if they were painted red they should have the decals under the red paint.

Now, as far as I am concerned a survivor car should retain all the painting flaws as it did when it left the factory. However, I have no idea how those cars are being judged, so you will have to do your own research on this.

We allowed these changes due to the fact that owners take their cars to different events, and some of the judges at these events may not know the specifics of our cars and might take points off thinking it is merely sloppy workmanship.

    Hope this helps.

As far as survivor cars with the painted bypass hose, I would think a hose would be a "consumable" and would not have a deduction for one that has been replaced.
