You know when you open an attachment from an email and its a file that the computer does not recognize you get a window to select the application to open it? And it has a box to check if you always want to use that application? How do you reverse it, like if you seclected the wrong application? :Dou:

    Help!

Good question Bill. To answer it I'm going to presume that you are using windows 9x or XP.

You can 'undo' or remove an association by editing the files properties. Open an Explorer window and from the menu items select Tools (or View)-->Folder Options-->File types and selecting the file type and editing the association. Sounds like a hassle doesn't it? You're right, it is. It's also dangerous if you don't know exactly what you're doing. Fortunately there is a much easier way to get around this...

Re-associate the file with another program. What type of file is it?

To associate a file with a program so that it automatically opens using that program follow these 5 simple steps (works with any file).

    1) Find the file you want to open.
    2) Click it once to highlight it.
    3) Press and hold the shift key down on your keyboard.
    4) While doing step 3 right click the file and select "Open With..."
    5) Select (or browse to) the program you wish to open the file with and don't foget to place a tick in the checkbox that says "Always use this program to open this file type".

A normal right click won't have the "Open with..." option. It's the pressing (and holding) of the shift key that gives you that option.
