70 Skylark convert, 68 430 & TH400. When I swapped the original 350/350 for the 430/400, I had the driveshaft shortened. I recently developed a trans output shaft seal leak. On investigating, I measured 2.25" of yoke exposed at the transmission, and the shaft now measures 53.625". Can the OEM driveshafts collapse? If so, what would be my best course of action? Can it be repaired or must it be replaced?

Replace it . I worked in a shop building drive shafts for 5 years so I know what you are going through . Factory shafts use .063 wall thickness tubing and are marginal at best with the power we have . So with that said I would definately use a thicker wall tubing .
