    COBRA KILL BY PROXY

Two people came up to me this past week and asked if I got nabbed by the Ohio State Police for street racing. There are two 02 black Z06 Corvettes in the neighborhood. I own one. They are identical bone stock cars. Apparently, my twin Z06 took on a 351 stroked SB Cobra kit car (another local) and was putting a serious hurting on him. The police officer was going in the opposite direction, saw the tail end of the race, and did a 180 to pursue. The Z06 out ran the Cobra and the Police. The Cobra got caught. The Cobra driver said they were going 150+ during the race but only got ticketed for 75. The State policeman must have been generous to the looser.

Fortunately, I have several friends at the local barracks. Time to stop by "with a box of donuts" and clarify my innocence.

PS. The Z06 is still the slow black car in the garage.

"So when's the story about an Opel puttin' the hurt on a ZO6 coming?"

That would be a sad kill. The better story is when the 71 S1 convertible, all #4080 waxes the Z06. The GN would hurt it even worse.

Still like driving the 6 speed.

The Cobra driver said they were going 150+ during the race

ummm, yeah. just what kind of cars are the cops supposed to be driving out there? even if he had one of those stealth camaro's i think they only get ~150. considering that the cop had to reverse field and accelerate from a rolling start that's going to put him a long way behind. ( 150 mph = 2.5 miles per minute or 1.25 miles every 30secs )

i find it very hard to believe that a cop car could have made up the ground on a rod going that fast. unless the cobra just weinied out when the gumballs came on something sounds really fishy about this hearsay story.

i suppose it sounds a lot more impressive to tell everybody he really was doing >150. wonder if he can actually get there w/o a 427.

OTOH, i have no problem believing the 02 vette can do 175.

The Cobra probably could outrun that copcar, but I bet he couldn't outrun that cop's radio. Surely there was more than one cop present for that guy's ticket.

Bob..........I can testify.........u can drop into 5th and still feel a Z06 pulling at 150. I have no doubt it will run 175-180 if you have the jewels to push it that far.

According to various tests, the Corvette coupe tops out at 175 mph and 162 mph for the convertible.
