If you insist........... Ok.......some of you may remember this little guy getting loaded into Dave Dudek's truck at Norwalk a couple of months ago.....I had mentioned on the "cool pit bike" post about a desire for a Honduh MiniTrail50-70. Mikey responded that his brother had a 1970 laying around the shed. This is what I got: "barn Fresh" 1970 Honda Mini Trail Z50
Mike gratiously offered to let me fire up the bike and try it out before sending the check to his brother CJ. This is what I had 2 hours after thinking.."Mike said it might be just the pilot jet. Let's see if I can get to that little carb".........
Some back ground.. My Bro' bought it the same year as he got his 1970 Road Runner I guess about 15 years ago. The Hon-Duh was also a 1970 model so the plan was to restore it as a pit pike to haul in the trunk of his Road Runner. One think leads to another and the lil' bike gets ridden a few times here and there, But basically spent the last 15 years leaning against the wall in the garage.
Which lead to .......... a "frame-off" resto. Boy, just like starting a project car, ain't it?? Don't know where to stop until the last bolt is off and everything is stripped down!
Found a place in Texas called www.Hondaminitrail.com . They work pretty quick as long as you keep funneling them cash! They have EVERYTHING to rebuild one of these!
But this time it is getting a rack on the trailer!! So your brother's wish sort of manifested itself thru me, eh? Pretty neat. I took it one step further.......I gave mine a coat of B5 Bright Blue Metallic with the optional V8W White Bumble Bee stripe. Here it is waiting for some parts. About 80% complete here.
Hey - that's really cool Frank !! :TU: :beer Question is: Did you keep it Pure Stock, or did you add all of those cool race parts to make it Stock Appearing ? :bglasses:
What a buncha CHEATERS ! Check this out ...... they have a 70cc jug that has 49cc cast into it !! Cheat....cheat.....cheat .......
Naturally....... Of course. Pure Stock is the way to ROCK! I was checking out the 110cc stroker for $799 though!! It FIGURES you would be the one to pick up on the ~CS~ barrel that was "mis-marked" at the factory.
Re: Naturally....... o No: Casey Marks... The only guy I know who knows how to fool a polygraph and a P&G. Bet he knows how to fake out a breath-a-lizer too:beer
   Aren't we a bunch of sick SOB's....that any of us would consider pokin' and strokin' a freakin Mini Trail Z50! Or do a ground up on a pit bike. I like it! :TU:
Actually...........both idle screws were turned ALL the way in, and the float bowl was gunked up with varnished old gasoline residue. Just needed a cleaning and I borrowed a carb jet cleaning tool from a buddy at work and chased out all the vents, holes, jets, etc.. All I did mechanically to the engine and trans was replace the coil, plug, points, and a condensor ( I was hoping to find a Petronix conversion ) and clean the carb. Fired up on the second kick!!!!
Wow, Brian. Have you been talking to my wife??? she's wondering what kind of demented morons would go babbling on about a stupid old mini bike. :boring: Anyways.......here is the finished product. I'm not too crazy about the seat. The idea about matching it to the interior of the GTS was a good idea. Just didn't work well with all the that black going on underneath it. I'll be changing it to either a black or a white seat.
I think this thing pulls better 60' times than my GTS. I can do wheelies with this one!! Maybe we need to take a vote on the seat color??? Should it be : (1) Light Blue (2) Black (3) White
