I'm putting my 4 speed 70 GS back together and have added MT headers. Who makes the correct return spring for this car? Is there a better option when using headers?

Also, on my clutch pedal there is a bracket(stud) high on the clutch pedal that looks like holds a return spring for the pedal to the pedal mount. Is that correct?

    Thanks for the help!!

Not sure about the return spring to the frame, as I have TA headers and there's no interference with it going to the frame. Others have had issues with MT headers. Do a search and a solution should pop up.

AS for the stud on pedals, if it's facing left towards the DS kick panel when the pedals are installed, that's probably the rod that goes in the D ring which activates the neutral safety switch.

I agree with Tom. As for a return spring I made one using a generic medium weight replacement from the auto parts store. Cut to length and bend in a hook. You should be able to find the correct hole in the frame to run the spring too. Remember it needs just a little tension to keep it in place. Depressing the pedal will do the rest.

On my old oil pan I drilled a small hole in the turned down part of pan and hooked the spring through there. No interference with my KB headers.

    I don't have one, never did:Do No:
It has worked fine for 26 years though!:3gears:

Paul, mt TA headers interfere with my spring, can you please post a picture of your set up for me to see where I went wrong??

    Thanks for the replies!

Scott, great idea on the oil pan!

Paul, my clutch pedal does have the triangular shaped bracket attached to it. What I have is a stud/bracked in the hole abiut 1" above the triangular bracket. It does point to firewall. ????

Also, when I tighten the bolt that holds both pedals (rebuilt with new bushings) the clutch pedal does not move freely like the brake pedal?? If I loosen the bolt up so the clutch pedal moves freely then the brake pedal is too loose and rocks a little side to side. ???

    Thanks,
    Tom

  8. Tim,

I talked with Dave Hanlon about this and he's right about why it'd hit on yours. I don't have a proportioning valve at the frame, only a distribution block. The spring clears easy on a 70 but not a 71 or 72.
