    BadBrad Got 4-speed?

    Hey guys,

How have you routed your clutch return spring when running headers? My headers are in the way of the normal spring route. Right now I'm running a clothes (take the clothing off first lest it burns  ) hanger wire between the pipes and then to short spring. I really don't like it 'uz it is a bit noisy.

    Brad,

Same problem here. I ended using a hose clamp on one of the headers tubes and attached return spring to it. Not the most hi tech, but it is out of site.

    Wes,

    An interesting solution!

    Brad,

I originally built a small bracket that attached at one of the bellhousing bolts. Couldn't seem to find a return spring that was short enough and had the right amount of tension. I ended up with the setup described above. It works great but would like to build something a little more rigid.

I see you are running a 3.42 1st gear T-10. How do you like it with freeway type gears? I'm running a 2.64 T-10 box with iron case,mid-plate and higher nickel gears. Thick they used to call the 'brute strength' in the speed shops. Love these 4 speeds.

We are neighors, you ever go to Sac. Raceway or any shows?

    Wes,

I go to a few shows when time allows. I'll be at the Shriners Hospital Conscourse d'elegance on June 3rd.
Took home third in class last year. Have not bee to the raceway with this car - but have with mopar stuff way back when.

Highway gears are great with my setup - actually the original owner set this up to tow his 5000# boat 100,000 miles over 2 decades of summers. Crazy - huh. I do 80 mph at around 2 grand.

    Brad,

I'm running the chrome long tube T/A headers on my '69 GS Cali, ended up running the spring at an angle to the crossmember. Got a universal replacement at Carquest, cut to fit & bent the ends for tension. I had called T/A about this problem and was told that they used Mike's Dad's car to do the mock up? Thought I was the only one with this trouble.

Any ideas on how to drill/tap the exaust manifold bolt hole on the head? Stripped out 2-3 when I was replacing the gasket. But that's another story...

i use a universal sping from auto zone long one bent it around the frane by the brake distribution block and used a bolt to secure it by where the brake hose bracket is seemed to work great .
