Clutch pedal repair

The hole in my clutch pedal that the upper rod clips into is elongated like they all are. And it squeaks like there's a mouse in the dash

I know the conventional repair would be to weld the hole closed and redrill it back to the correct size. But has anyone drilled it larger and used a steel bushing from a Hurst pit pack? Would a nylon bushing be up to the task? It seems like it would be a perfect repair and would make it serviceable in the future.

There should have been a plastic bushing in there to start with, you can still get them from the chevy stores. same as brake pedal.
I've got some around here, someplace, have to practically stand on your head to change, 'em. you can also use WD40 or something similar to make it go away for a little while.

Actually I did it to the Zbar, I took it to work and had the machinist ream out the hole to the proper size and it works good....

We welded the egg and re-driled the original diameter hole.

yessumm, weld and redrill. I think I did drill it out to a larger size for the new bushing.....hmmm it's been a few years.

I've had to weld the clutch pedal stuff back on both cars, but never had a problem with the hole elongating? Wilmington Buicks must have been made better! LOL!

  7. Weld it, and install a bronze sleeve/bushing with a 3/8 ID. Trim it to fit the clutch pedal arm width to the the cotter pin. This removes the possible side to side slop.

Also the bronze bushing is now a replaceable service item. You can jsut swap that out if it happens again.

While you have the pedal out reinforce those crappy factory spot welds. I've had to perform said surgery on both pedals I've had over the years.
