I am doing a concours restoration on my 70 GS Stage 1 Convertible with an M21. While replacing the clutch fork in my car, the fork that came out had a bracket welded to it, which I believe was for the return spring. The new one I bought does not have this bracket. Is this bracket supposed to be there from the factory? If I use the new one, where does the return spring attach to? Will I lose points for this in a judging? The picture in the factory manual is not clear. Thanks

The two four speed cars I've owned have never had a bracket. I beleive the assembly manual shows a bracket (whether it was welded or simply held in place by the clevis pin is unknown). Regardless of the manual, actual practice may have been different depending on factory. My GSX (a Flint car) had no bracket. My current GS (a Fremont car) has no bracket.

No bracket here either. I installed the end of the spring in the hole in the bottom of the clevis pin.

After seeing the little bracket in the assembly manual, I took notice of clutch forks at events. None of the cars I took a look at had it.

    Brad,
So where does your return spring attach to?

    Hi

Here is a photo of my 71 GS350 with 4 speed.
    Hope this helps.

Sorry for the delay. After all this time I found it best to just send it through the clevis pin
