What would be the best way to clean an oil breather from a 55 Super? My neighbor suggested soaking it gasoline to get all the muck out of it. Any other ideas?

    Thanks,

My 56 shop manual says to clean it with a non flamable cleaner and let it drip dry do not blow it out with air. It doesn't say what that cleaner is.

GASAMOLINE - think about it-50 years ago in every little garage, and all the doitcherseffers in their driveways and the shade tree mechanics and grease-monkeys - they used 19 cents a gallon genuine oil bath air filter cleaner. Gasoline my friend. Unless you are good friends with the parts cleaner/solvent man. Be careful.
