When I lived in Pittsburgh there was a lot of mean ass iron tucked in small garages in the city but now that I live in Atlanta it seems that all the gearheads live in the 'burbs or out in the country. Are there any other urban gearheads out there?

So where do you guys live? City, country, small town, 'burbs?

Out in the 'burbs here....just outside of St. Louis. Urban sprawl rules!!!

I do a lot of driving out here in the subdivisions and I see lots of old iron tucked away in peoples' garages....

I pass by a 71 Skylark convertible in a garage every once in a while. I've never been able to catch them outside though.

    Guh-huck! Country dude!

I'm a small town country guy. Our town only has 1400 residents, so it's kinda peaceful and quiet. I like it out here. I don't think I could ever live in a suburban area or city, though... the great thing about the country is you can do huge, smokey, smokey burnouts right in front of your house, and no one really cares or is the wiser!

This is my buddies '71 Monte Carlo with mild SBC in front of my house. This happens often throughout the summer!

Live in Indianapolis now simply because of school. I went home last weekend and as soon as I got in the corn fields, I stopped and took a deep breath. I love the smell of country. I really live in a little town, though with 1200 full time residents (1800 in the summer). Small town life is kewl. All the cops know you and look the other way...:beer

    Nice!

I guess were I am living now would be considered a suburb of Phoenix. There are lots and lots of vintage cars here in the Valley of the Sun.

I grew up an urbanite but have lived in a couple of rural communities. I see a lot more really Nice vintage cars in the cities than in the country. Seems like there are a lot more older vehicles in service or rotting throughout rural areas though.

I lived in the city and suburbs of Minneapolis for over 25 years. When i got married, we moved to the sticks, drove me nuts for a couple years. Now, when I make trips to big cities, they drive me nuts, don't understand how people can live like that. The town we live in now is 2500 people, we just bought a place in Colorado, four miles outside of a town of 750. I am looking forward to turning the stress level down one more notch:cool:

I'm all over the rural areas allowing more frequent and daring "exhibitions of speed". I think I am the only guy within 50 miles of here with a red Porsche(or any german car other than VW) and that sucker still sees 120+ daily:grin: When my wife drives the GS, the kids egg her on to peel out. Only red GS around and she obliges them regularly. Nothing better than a smoky burnout done by a mom hauling her kids around for errands, in a BBB of course!

Sure travelling into the city everyday Sux but.....??

I used to live in Minneapolis, then I moved to a second ring suburb. Then I went all out 5 years ago and moved 38 miles outside of downtown St. Paul. I have almost 3 acres of trees/hills and a spot to hide at least 15 cars. It is a nice, new neighborhood from the front but when you get on the back lot I have a 30 x 50 foot garage plus a 3 car attached to the house.(made sure zoning allowed it before we signed our life away)

I do leave at least one junk Buick on my driveway so my friends can find me. :)

So I am like a mullet. Business in the front, Buick party in the back.

Where do I live??? Well...both, kinda.

I spend about 70% on my time in Shaler (a suburb of Pittsburgh). Shaler is really nice. I grew up here so I"m used to all the annoyances of city life.

I also stay in Clarion (85 miles north of Pittsburgh). I have a little 35 acre piece of land up there where someday I'll complete my Buick barn. Right now the Buicks are out in the rain. I intend to put a trailer, or build little cabin someday when I get my things straightened out. It'll make a nice camp. I stay with my uncle when I up there. I'm related to most of the people in this area, so its like my home when I'm there.

I work in Butler PA which is in the middle of the two places (drive time, not milage).

That's what my dad said too, but you couldn't pay him a million bucks to move back to chicago after 11 years of living here.

  17. I grew up farming in rural ND, went to a school in a town of under 200, graduated in a class of 17 after we consolidated schools with another town as a senior. Living in the country was good, farming sucks. After college I moved to Fargo, about 19 yrs ago. Fargo/Moorhead/West Fargo metropolitan area is around 150,000 or so, but is in a very rural setting. You won't see skyscrapers blocking out the sky, it is a very spread out city.

I intend to be part of the "spreading out" in about 2 years. Right now we are in our first house, in an older area of town. We'll be looking for a place 5-10 miles out of town, but decent places in that distance are hard to come by, and expensive, so most likely we'll just be moving to a much newer, farther out, subdivision.

Then again, we are also considering the possibility of moving out of the skeeter capital of the Upper Midwest. It's hard to give up 14 years with an employer though. But who knows... :Do No:

    A little of both...

We live out on 10.5 acres 35 miles east of Cincinnati. House tucked in the middle of roughly 7 acres of woods. And on a paved road.

3 horses, 2 cats, one dog. Weekends are filled with the chores, while during the week I'm a mild-mannered GE company-suit. The only real giveaway to the redneck side is the dirty 4WD truck in the parking lot, the 12 Ertl Buicks on the desk, along with the 4' longhorn rack on top of the computer... (long story).

Would love to not do the corporate gig, but it's funding the current lifestyle... don't think I could ever move back into a "neighborhood."

A little of both, too ...

I was born and lived in Marin County (outside of San Francisco) until I was 7. Then I lived in Brooklyn until I was 14. From high school on up to the present I've lived in the country pretty much. Right now I live in a house w/ about 12 acres of woods around it. I'm the second to last house on the road. The town's snow plowing obligation ends just past my driveway. But I'm still less than 2 hours from the city where half my family lives.

I live in a suburb about an hour north or Los Angeles. My parents have a 1/4 acre lot that they got for a bargin back in the late 70's. It was great when I was growing up, only 50,000 people lived here, but now the average cost of a house is creeping towards $500,000. Noone under 30 can afford to live here. Your stories of small towns sure sound nice, maybe I'll come join y'all in the sticks.
