A customer brought her 05 Aveo she purchased used at the dealer where I work complaining the car is doggy on accelleration. I explained to her that the Aveo is an economy car and it blazing acelleration is not part of the package. She insisted I drive the car and see for myself, so we head out to the 4 lane for a test drive. We drove a quarter mile to a stop light and pull up to the light in the right lane and shortly afterwards a first series talon pulls up in the left. I work for a Jeep dealer and saw that the talon was a non turbo front driver with an early 20's guy driving. The light turns green and the talon takes off with a screech of tires, Now I have the owner of the Aveo sitting next to me and I am not about to street race her car. I press the gas to the floor to show her that the car can keep up with traffic while keep a running conversation that her new car will not be as fast as the 6 cylinder car she traded in. As the 4 gerbils are doing there job under the hood I notice that we are gaining on the talon, at 55 mph we have caught the Talon and at 60 mph we have a car length on it. I let off the gas at 60 and tell the customer that the car is pretty peppy for a small econo box just as the Talon does a fly by. I would have loved to have video of 2 middle aged people in a 4 door econobox blowing off a dude in his bright red "hot" car. Kevin :3gears:

You never know how that routine test drive will work out do you. We had a customer come in to the Pontiac dealership where I was working in about 1979 complaining about his new four speed trans-am shifting hard. I was assigned to go for a ride with him to see the trouble. As we left the dealership I commented that the car seamed to be ok to me. :Do No: He replied that I should go faster as that was where his trouble was. More rpm and quicker shifts and still no trouble. Now on a back road with no traffic we came to a stop to get back to first gear That was when he told me to go as fast as I could  . Right foot to the floor-red line-stab clutch-yank shifter :3gears: -repeat-repeat-repeat-right foot off floor. I said seams fine to me. The guy says Maybe I just need more practice.
In the automotive business you have to enjoy the little moments. Thanks for bringing an old memory back for me. Buy the way Avero owner satisfied?

seems the aveo is an improvement over the metro. in those things you had to turn off the a/c to maintain speed going uphill.
