'71buickg.s. a dark and stormy night..

Ok, I started work at Krispy Kreme on friday. Dad picks me up in the suburban, yadda yadda yadda, we end up going back into town in the gn. After a few burnouts in a wet parking lot, a visit to Lowes and the pool store, It's time to go home. Now, this being my first day of work, I am very tired, so I fall asleep. As I'm waking up, a nice 71-72 chevelle drives by and we follow it. He gets on it a little, so does Marty, then, we notice the cop cruising along in front of the chevelle so that race is done. Yesterday, he picks me up from work in the gn and as we're going down Cooper street we see a gorgeous '69 ss Camaro. It sounded quite mean and quite built.. 396 maybe? anyways, we get on the highway and he was ahead of us with 2 or 3 cars between us. He gets on it and Marty does when he can but it was no use. We catch up to the guy but he didnt seem to really want to race so both cars are kinda playing with the throttle for a while and then he gets off. Shortly afterwords we see a brand new white Viper convertible with an older couple in it. Im oggling the car and the guy keeps smiling. Well, marty floors it and we're off, i wave to the guy but he doesnt bite. A little while later he comes up again, looking at us with a smug grin, and he dropped the hammer.. just as he did marty did too and we stayed dead even until the guy let out.. somewhere in the speed range of all the way to the right lol. Well, the highway split, up ahead, and here comes the guy in the viper again, only he got on it before we were even and went by us, again, with a smug grin on his face like he beat us. Then there was today, marty again picked me up in the gn and in almost the same spot we had seen the camaro yesterday there was a black 77 nova with what sounded like a built sbc, he had the tires sticking out a few inches on each side and the rear end was jacked way up, he's 2 lanes over from us and we pass him and he hears the turbo and suddenly hes glued to our butt. Well, he gets around us, stabbing the throttle, until we get stopped at a light and Marty yells "HEY! when was the last time u got beat by a 6!?" The guy just smiled and it was on from there, he was behind us, and noticed we were getting on the highway, so he got around us and a couple other cars and got on the highway before us. Only he actually waited for us unlike the camaro. Try number 1) Both floored at the same time, we pull until they let off [marty waved bye-bye to him Try 2] Marty drags the brakes and builds some boost until the other guy gets on it We pull again, only harder this time [marty was yellin at the guy COME ON!! and waving with his arm tryin to get the guy to go faster or something] Try number 3) well.. same results! this time marty told the guy ATLEAST IT SOUNDED NICE! the guy smiled and got off.

I guess thats the hotspot in arlington!

Sorry if that seemed to drag on or was too long.. ive been up since 7.. im not used to it yet!

Well, unfortunately there won't be much more for a while.. you dont normally see people looking for a race around here during the week, and Marty will be out of town this weekend. I'm still quite amazed that we could hang with the viper from a 65mph roll! Maybe the guy couldn't drive? Gn's are by no means highway cars but i suppose it doesnt matter when they get fast. We're searching for mid-high 11's after we get the drag radials mounted and a better front mount intercooler!:3gears:

    Josh,

Sounds like you and your dad are having fun w/ the locals. Just be careful as Cooper street is a dangerous area.

great kills. I have never rode in a GN but if I did it would probably be a ride I would never forget, especially since im used to my stock non turbo 231:laugh:

GN's can be tuned out to be pretty fast though with all the stuff you can do to them now:TU: :3gears:

I know how dangerous cooper Street can get.. This was right by the Parks Mall. We never raced there or did anything stupid, theres always too much traffic. It all took place on I-820 right off of Cooper. Your car looks awesome! Have you heard of the LSPBC? If not check out www.lspbc.org

    Josh,

Yep, I have been a member on and off of the LSPBC for years. So many clubs so little time.

Thanks for the kind remarks about my ride. Still trying to get the bugs worked out. If you and your dad ever head out to Kennedale raceway, let me know and I will try to join.

    Regards,

We actually live about 5 or 6 miles from kennedale, we hear the racing all the time! Do you know where rendon road is? We live in a neighborhood called Autumn Hill Estates right off of there, you can actually see our house from Rendon rd.

    Josh,

Sure do, we looked at house over there. I have lived in Arlington for the past 25 years, since 7th grade. I bet you not only hear the dragstrip but the dirt track too. Can you hear the trains at night?

Did you look at a house over here or in our neighborhood? We just moved in January 1st.. you may have looked at our house! It had a huuuuge tree in the front, a small 2 car garage and a crappy privacy fence, We built a 6 car garage, turned the old garage into a game room, and put up a nice white picket fence that you can see from rendon rd. heres what it looks like today:

    Josh,

No we didn't. It was several years back and me the misses could not agree on a place to live. We decided on a place close to I-20 so we could both get to work. She works in Dallas and I am in FTW.

    Looks like a nice spread.

FYI - my shop is about 1 mile from your employer. Maybe one day we can all hook up for a little Buick talk.

Take care and good luck w/ the new job!

Sorry about hi-jacking your thread. Nice story. Those are the ones that you will always remember.

    Regards,

    Josh,

My shop is just an evening and weekend place to work on cars. It is located on Arkanas lane, just off Cooper street. I will be in Boston this weekend so I won't make it to redline. Anyway, I am still waiting for the Chassis shop to get my car in for a new cage. Kennedale won't let me run w/o it.

    Jeevesrules27

Sorry, but I cannont compare the two areas. Best bet is a little visit to see how you like it. FYI - we race almost year round!:3gears:
