Checking pushrod length

Okay, update. Decided to momentarily ditch measuring at zero lash. I installed my adjustable pushrod. Kept changing in small increments to achieve the best possible role or pivot of the rocker arm to valve stem relationship as per the Buick Performance and TA catologue. This gave me a desired pushrod length of 9.325. Now, if i use my old numbers, adjustable pushrod at zero lash was 9.285. This gives me a lifter pre-load of .040. This should work good. When I went a bit shorter to acheive .030, the rocker arm didn't quite pivot well over the valve stem. Will be ordering a set of 9.325, unless anyone thinks I am wrong

I wouldn't be afraid of 0.040". Just make sure TA measures the same way you are.

Hang on a second, Jay...you can't rotate the crankshaft manually and watch the valvetrain go through the motions with hydraulic lifters. The lifter plungers will fully depress when they try to start opening the valves, so you'll never see full valve lift this way.

To mock this up for checking rocker arm geometry you have to substitute with solid lifters.

Hey, Jay, did you get the new push rods installed yet? I've got the same cam as you and now have a set of adjustable pushrods to try out - was thinking of adding some preload (over my current pushrod length) to see if I could quiet my valve train down a little. Let us know how it turns out.
