Found a car that an elderly gent put a green top on since it would be easier to keep clean instead of a white top. Is it possible to dye the top white somehow or am I out of luck and either have to live with it or replace it?
    Thanks

There would be a lot of time and effort in taping the top and the car off. And there is am issue about how long it would stay looking nice given the rubbing in the folds when it is stored.

    Greg,
If you are talking about dying a convertible top, then I wouldn't even consider it. You can get away with dying a vinyl top, at least for a while, but the other..............................

Thanks, I figured as much but will have to consider that in my offer. How much is it to have a top replaced? Assuming everything underneath is good.

Any idea what a 1972 Cutlass convertible is worth? 79k original miles, good interior, good paint, only rust is bubbling on the trailing edge of the trunk lid. Second owner, been garaged the whole time. They are asking $14k but that seems high as its a base Cutlass with a Rocket 350. Car does have AC and power windows. Needs the trunk lid fixed, a new AC compressor clutch and, at least for me a new top, though the other is in good condition.
    THanks.

    GStage1 Always looking for parts!

$14k for an orig Cutlass conv is very high....assume you will need all new w-strip including the ones for the conv top. Then figure...bushings, ball joints, springs etc....just because it has 79k does not mean the car has not aged.

Expect labor and material for just the top to be $300-400. If you add a back glass add another $200. Pads are $50, cables are $50, well liner is $75, conv top w-strip is $300-350/set, tack strips are probably originals and will run $100-200 to replace......for a complete top installation including all new parts....as Jim Lore stated $800-1200.

For the trunk lid....don't waste your time fixing them. I have 3 of them and tried to fix all three car's trunk lids to no avail. Best bet is to get fiberglass ones. I bought all 3 of them from US Body Source outside of Gainesville for $130 each...well worth it and they fit nice.
