Any issues changing from clock and idiot lights to factory tachometer and ralleye gauge on 1972 GS455? Like do I need to change wiring or add different sending units. Already have the tach and ralleye gauge. Just wondering before I take it all apart. Thanks

One option you can consider.........................Install the in-dash gauge cluster and don't bother to hook up the oil and water portion but install a gauge cluster under the dash. It will give you much more accurate info anyway. If you insist on having the in-dash gauges operational in addition to the under dash ones, you will have to buy sensors for the engine that have dual contacts.

Or, use mechanical gauges. You can have both sets of gauges work. I have all my stock gauges working. I have the 2 temperature gauges hooked to the front of the intake one on each side. My oil pressure was a bit more challenging especially with the oil pressure equalization line, which is -6AN braided line. My Autometer mechanical comes off a tap in the line at the back. I bought a Russell fitting that had a tap, and put it in line at the front, then screwed the stock sender into that.

I will probably get the sending units, and reposition the pins. Let you all know how it turns out, Thanks for the insight!

I have this info on my website for anyone wanting to convert from Warning Lights to Gauges.

    If you're re-Pinning this is the sequence needed. . . . . .

So the black wire out of the original harness that isn't being used in the new arrangement, should it be grounded somewhere on the dash? (I did) Got dash back in and I don't have the engine back for builder. With the battery hooked up, the generator light is on even with the key off?

The only Black Wire I recall being used in the Connector was on the 1972 Models and it was only for the seat Belt Warning Light/Buzzer . . .

Your Generator Light issue is probably not related to the Gauges. (Yes, the light is on but probably due to some other issue related to the Voltage Regulator and / or wiring . . .

Here's a wiring diagram shot of the Gauges on a 72 showing the Black Wire and it's location . . . (Keep in mind this is for the Warning Lights though so the Gauges may have a different location) Only 1 spot left for it to go in though . . . .

I do sell a complete Poster Size Wiring Diagram if interested. They work great for trouble shooting anything electrical or to aid in helping understand the wiring on these cars.

Thanks I own your poster but from the other part of the post I wasnt sure what to do with the black since it isn't in the plug after you re-pin it

I don't know that I would do anything with that one since it appears to be for the "Fasten Seat Belt" light which the reproduction gauges do not have as that was a later in the year 1972 option. . . . No pin on the reproduction gauges to plug it into.
I don't know if it is a ground or not . . . . or should be grounded? I'd have to research that more.
