    alright guys,
this has been soo frustrating for the last week! I've got my cd player mounted, fuses are all good, but the only way i can get the cd player to turn on is if one of the Speaker wires is touching either the constant 12v or the aux 12v wire. I've got a good ground, but the SOB wont put out sound because of the power going through the speaker wire. Can you help me out please?
I've got a JVC deck, and there is a wiring diagram on it, but there is an extra orange wire w/ a white line that it says NOTHING about. I think this might be the problem, but i don't know.

sounds like it's wired wrong.. what model is the unit? new, used? how does the diagram on the unit say to hook it up?

usually an orange or orange w/tracer wire will have something to do with dimming the display.
you need to tell us everything you have in your system and paint us a good install picture with your description.

tell us what color of wires are hooked to what.

    Exactly what Yuk said!

I didn't know head units (some anyways) came with dimming displays.. My fun fact for the day.. :Smarty:

The yellow wire has to be hooked up to a constent
12 volt power source even after the car is shut off.
This wire is for the memory of your deck. The red
wire must run to a power source that has power
only when the ignition is in the ON position, or when
the key is turned to accesories. If you have those two
wires hooked up and your black wire grounded you
should be in business. Also your orange and white wire
is illumination and you don't need it. Good luck.

if your jvc cd player is well over 10 years old, the 12v constant wire might be orange instead of yellow. before the car stereo companies agreed to a standard, some companies did their own thing and jvc used orange for that.
if your cd played is newer than 10 years old, yellow would be the 12v constant as stated above.

let us know how it goes ....

    orange wire

thanks for the orange wire information guys. I know a lot about car stereo, but this deck is just giving me trouble. Umm... the deck is a 2002 model. Havn't been home much to check the model #. But i'll get to it some time tomarrow. My system is gonna be some kick panels with probably kicker midranges, and some 6x9 boxes in the rear window with a 600watt amp driving two kicker 10's.

many times a kenwood radio will shut down its internal amp for safety if ANY speaker wire is subjected to ground.
NO speaker wires should be grounded to the car chassis...
EXAMPLE: if you was to hook up a kenwood radio with only rear speakers, the speaker output wires for front speakers should be individually taped off so they cannot short to anything metal in your dash. if one of them shorts out, none of them will work.
some radio makers dont use this protection and instead will soon go up in smoke.
alpine, pioneer, kenwood, and most reputable manufacturers will have this protection built in.
those junk radios (roadmaster, pyramid, unic, etc.) that people sell at swap and shop or street corners usually dont. but they usually dont work for more than a week anyway.
