That is definitley the 300.I kept my original auto trans in case I ever wanted it back to original and put in a borg Warner 4 speed, would have liked a muncie but it they were out of my financial meens at the time, the good thing about the 300 is you can bolt any Gm 4 speed behind it,all you need is the bellhousing, fork and clutch, pedals.I know it sounds like alot of messing around but in my opinion is well worth the effort. I would put the 300 in unless you are worried about originality which in your case sounds like original motor is gone anyhow, and go with a 4 speed manual behind the 300.

The 300 uses a Buick, Olds, Pontiac or BOP boltpattern on the trans. The th350, th400, and 200 r4, all came in BOP versions or Chevy boltpatterns. They are all common and cheap, and the 200 r4 is a 4 speed trans.

    Sounds good
How long was the BOP boltpattern used,i mean can i take a transmission from a 74 oldsmobile for example and expect it to fit my -64 300"??

Off the top of my head, about '64-'88 :Comp:

    Yep :TU:

BTW, the 200R-4 is pretty easy to get ahold of.

Just go to the junkyard and look for any '80s mid-size or full-size GM car, look inside at the shifter and see if it has 4 forward gears :3gears:

Its a VERY easy swap, I just helped put one from an '87 Monty into my brother's '65 Lark.

Oh yeah, the bell housing on the 200R-4 is funny looking :puzzled:

It has Chevy and BOP bolt paterns, so it dosnt look like it will fit, but it will :Smarty:

Dual bolt pattern:The lower two bolts and dowel pins are in the same for both the Chevy and the BOP patterns, but he upper four bolts are different. The Dual can work with either chevy or Buick olds, pontiac.

    Your options:

    1. electronic 4 speed version of the Turbo 400, the 4L80E overdrive (not sure if all of them are dual pattern but some are.

    2. 200-R4 (overdrive) I believe they are all dual pattern

    3. 700-R4 (overdrive) with adapter (slightly stronger than 200 R4)

    4. Th-400 some are BOP pattern

    5. Th-350 some are BOP pattern

The th 400 and 350 are simple to setup and have no electronics but lack the overdrive gear.

WOW Sean. That is some good info! I don't use an automatic but that is some good information to know.

Vince, I know you may be frustrated with your purchase. You said that everything you buy goes to hell. This could be a blessing in disguise though. The '63 has always been a favorite of mine. I really like working with the 215s but the 300 is a good engine. The Wildcat 310, the one you bought, would be a good upgrade. It's worth considering keeping it...
