Anybody know where to buy a good rebuild kit for a AFB, 66 skylark.

Tried all the usual suspects and only NAPA seemed to have one, but at $40, it seemed a little pricey.

Believe me when I say, it's not as good as a NAPA kit. You get what you pay for.

My local autozone could not find a rebuild kit for the AFB on thier computer.

I guess it's off to NAPA to order the kit, have to order it, they don't stock anything more complicated than spark plugs.

Thank you all for the help.

Car Quest has rebuild kits for the AFB, Standard/Hygrade # 283D.
Also available from Autozone and Rockauto.com ...under $20.
Borg Warner also makes a kit, #10047A. Got one from an indpendent for under $25.
Napa told me they could no longer get me a kit, that was 2 years ago.

    Thank goodness for the internet!
    Autozone--no part number found
    CarQuest--no part number found
Napa--we can get it, but the price is higher than the internet and we don't know how long it will take.

Bought it on line from Napa. I know I'll have to pay shipping, but a least I'm geting one.

Back when I was a lot younger the parts stores had guys who were x-mechanics or car guys and would hunt stuff up, and you could get a discount sometimes. Now, don't have it, can't find it, don't know.

    Thanks for the input guys.

Rockauto does have it. Search by part number:

    HYGRADE Part # 283D {Jiffy Kit for CARTER #3921} $17.36

    And the NAPA listing:
    CRB 25424A

    w/ Carburetor Type: C-4 w/ Carburetor # 4053, 4054, 4055, 4056, 4059, 4060, 4061, 4179, 4180, 4181, 4331, 4332, 4344, 4453

    $31.49
What brand is the NAPA kit?
Nice thing about NAPA is you can buy carb parts separately....accelerator pumps, floats, needle/seat, top gaskets, etc.

I'd be curious to know how the different kits differ.

I'll let you know in two days. I just ordered this exact kit and it will be here in 48 hours. I cleaned my carb today and found it is a 4061.

Well the carburetor kit showed up, the local NAPA had to order it out of the Seattle warehouse. $32.XX out the door. All-in-all a good kit with all needed pieces plus extras for slight variations in the carb configurations. All went well with the rebuild except for finding the carb full of debris, the secondary jets plugged, one of the accelerator pump squirters was plugged, someone had been in the carb before and reinstalled the floats upside down (!), and the hot air passages for the choke were plugged. With the help of plenty of carb cleaner and this kit the car runs night and day better than before - as to be expected after finding all that!
