I've got this stumble on acceleration that I just can't seem to fix. I've replaced the accelerator pumps on both carbs with new ones, and no matter what I do, they only almost work. These are the kind that are made of rawhide (yee-hah! ) They work great for a while if I stretch them out, but after about a week they shrink and barely squirt. I've done this at least a half dozen times. Does anybody know if the Edelbrock pumps will fit and do these have a rubber boot instead of rawhide? o No: It's times like this that I really miss my old quadrajet. :af:
Carmen is the man!! Here was my problem all along (and the addition of a stronger pump spring): ..........notice in the photo how the skirt of the plunger on the left (Carmen's) is longer than the one on the right. (NAPA brand) They were too short, and didn't seal. Carmen had the good stuff, what a guy! Problem solved. :TU:
Thanks for sharing that tip. I have seen a lot of Carters have a "stumble". The newer AFB pumps, Carter & Edelbrock are a larger diameter with a neoprene style cup. I guess a guy could have the pump cylinder of the early carb opened up at a machine shop, but your tip is easier. Happy motoring, Frank
