Saw this one Monday while taking a new route home from picking Jeff up from his ACA. Had thought at first it was a T/A but am uncertain. Lon
Lon, I know about the Omega SX from the late 70's, but was there also a Cutlass SX ? The wheels of the car in the second photo look like they are from a Pontiac.
Olds had a W32 that they came out with in 1969, which was a mild 442 HT, but had the Ramair. It had a W32 decal right above the front side marker lamps just like the W30 (and W31). In 1970, they came out with the Gbody top Cutlass Supreme and offered it as an SX model in both coupes and convertibles. No reference to W32 on the vehicle, but the option was still called W32 on the order sheets and window sticker. Only badges were small bronze/gold emblems on the front fenders below the Cutlass Supreme badges. They had 455's as did the 442 (different body style) in 1970. Regular Supremes had a 350. Most were loaded automatics with A/C and highway gearing. (2.56) In 1971, a very screwed up year for anything GM, thanks to the UAW strike, they started off the year carrying over the SX as a W32 on the option sheet, but somewhere along the way dropped off the W32 reference. It had the same small square badges like the 71's. Don't know what was on the window stickers or order forms. In 1972, you could get a 455 in any Abody, so there was no special designation for a 455 Cutlass Supreme. The cars were the same as the 71's just no badging. More useless trivia I'm downloading to unload my memory bank.....and relieve my brain....... That car Lon shows here is a very big dollar car and well worth restoring, even in these #$%^&#$%^&#$%^& times. You can see the SX badges and it does have the 455. This is quite a group of valuable cars and a few years back would love to have them all.
What happened to the cars Lon? You used the words "were almost mine"....hopefully they didn't end up getting crushed.
Here are pics of cars I have found on the side of the road. Most are cars for sale, but hey, its always fun to see more cars! <a href="http://s264.photobucket.com/albums/ii166/bmxmon/Other/?action=view¤t=DSCF1604.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii166/bmxmon/Other/DSCF1604.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://s264.photobucket.com/albums/ii166/bmxmon/Other/?action=view¤t=IMGP1162.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii166/bmxmon/Other/IMGP1162.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://s264.photobucket.com/albums/ii166/bmxmon/Other/?action=view¤t=IMGP1318.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii166/bmxmon/Other/IMGP1318.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://s264.photobucket.com/albums/ii166/bmxmon/Other/?action=view¤t=IMGP1464.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii166/bmxmon/Other/IMGP1464.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://s264.photobucket.com/albums/ii166/bmxmon/Other/?action=view¤t=IMGP3228.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii166/bmxmon/Other/IMGP3228.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://s264.photobucket.com/albums/ii166/bmxmon/Other/?action=view¤t=IMGP3370.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii166/bmxmon/Other/IMGP3370.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://s264.photobucket.com/albums/ii166/bmxmon/Other/?action=view¤t=IMGP3374.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii166/bmxmon/Other/IMGP3374.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://s264.photobucket.com/albums/ii166/bmxmon/Other/?action=view¤t=DSCF0008.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii166/bmxmon/Other/DSCF0008.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://s264.photobucket.com/albums/ii166/bmxmon/Other/?action=view¤t=DSCF0009.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii166/bmxmon/Other/DSCF0009.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> The Mustang wasn't for sale and no, I wasn't trespassing, the guy who owned it told me where it was and to go take pictures!!
I like seeing them too. You must be like me, always looking for cars for sale or looking unloved and in need of a new home. Doesn't matter if I have money, would want that car, or what ever. I'm just addicted to cars, and finding that hidden diamond in the rough. Found a chevelle and a 67-69 camaro with blackberries growing over them last weekend. I'm going to wait till I have a couple bucks in my pocket and go knock on the door sometime. I know they won't sell them but no harm in checking.
Patton, It was between me and another guy. I decided to back out at $6500 for all 4 cars. BIG, BIG projects and was looking to only flip them if I got them. This was just 2 months ago. Owner of the cars has Lou Gerhigs disease and doesn't have long to live.
Steve, No yards left near me. The best one was hidden and when the owner died the vultures swooped in and handed the widow their business cards in the funeral line:eek2: Within 2 months almost 2000 cars were crushed:shock: The yard was loaded and almost no one was allowed in. I remember looking at a 68-1/2 Torino Cobra 428SCJ, jet black, 4spd. It was missing its' front clip but strangely enough the drivetrain was complete from its' shaker hood to oil pan to the driveshaft still fastened to the rear:shock:  Wish I could of spent more time in it.
Lon has spooky, scary "junkyards" near him. We checked out this one a year or two back. Looks like the cars wee just driven in and parked mostly. Not much left, but sure were some interesting cars if someone could have got to them years back. This is only a few of them. Was like walking through an old forgotten graveyard.....and it was......
This is at my dad's place. Fond memories of the "Yank Tank" as a kiddie when we'd spend our school holidays at the grandparents' farm. In the last 30 years, the river has broken it's bank 6 or 7 times and the Phoenix has been under water, and in summer, houses a variety of nasty snakes!
