Went to Carlisle car show with my brother Wednesday and Thursday, it has to be one of the largest shows on the east coast! Anyways, I got there Wednesday morning and after being there only 15 minutes this older gentleman selling every kind of car part had a small table in the back of his space and under it was a 70 Buick Skylark front bumper. The chrome was excellent and when I turned it over it still had the GM labels on the bumper. It was an NOS bumper!!! My brother and I both said to each other he will probably want an arm and a leg for this thing. I ask him how much and he said he's had it for a while and wants to get rid of it and asked us if we would give him $30.00 for it, before i could say yes my brother had the $30 out of his pocket!!! What was your greatest part find? Ernie 1970 GSX Stage 1970 GS Stage
While searching for parts to mend the collision damage to my '62 Skylark (about $1800 worth from a yard in AZ), I found a complete, running (but ugly) parts car about 15 minutes from my house for $1000. Everything I needed was on it, plus a complete second engine, lotsa usable trim, etc. The only differences are that it is an automatic tranny and a convertible. But hey, any parts I can't use, I can sell to get my money back out of it. Kinda hated to pull the thing apart, but ya gotta have priorities, and the convertible was too far gone rust-wise to consider saving on my budget.
I posted it under the "Pay It Forward" forum but, here it is again. Went to Carlisle yesterday and bought"An old set of Buick heads" as the guy said for $ 40. Turned out to be 1970 Stg.1 heads with stainless steel valves! They're gonna go real nice on my GSX..:TU:
Gees Al, how did ya get so lucky??? Came across a S-divider intake for 200 buck but the wife wouldn't let me go bargain. I saw someone walking away with a very nice set of buick rallys and I also saw a 72 GS grill that was broken for 22 bucks...
fall carlisle wow, way to go ernie & al. all i found for the buick this time was a nos 66 GS rh headlamp assembly @ $80.00 that i bought for the T-3 bulbs & retaining rings & a pair of 1970 MD license plates. about the only other parts i saw was a few 4 speed consoletes, some inner fenders, and a few other used parts. only about four guys that had GS parts. very little nos of any brand except ford & chevy. carlisle is filling up with k-mart junk so badly that i'm surprised anybody found anything. i saw tons of tube socks, flintstone vitamins, camoflouge clothing, lawn ornaments, baskets, toys, non automotive junk, and so many tool vendors in competition that i'm sure the only ones making a profit on that stuff is the manufacturers. years ago you could go up there and come back with a truckload of nos goodies and only spend a few hundred bucks, those days are gone forever. glad somebody found something good. you guys want to double your money real quick ? henry white 70 GS 350 70 GS 455 70 STAGE 1 four speed, numbers matching
I was at Carlisle on Friday and found an NOS 72 Taillight lens, 20.00, and a really nice 70 GS steering wheel with the thumb edge, it had a very nice steering hub and black horn button. I really did not need it but the price was right. I am going to put the lens, horn button and the steering hub on Ebay. There is a guy in Carlisle that can restore the steering wheel to new condition. So I will sell the extra parts to help pay for the steering wheel restoration. None of the parts came from Buick vendors, you just have to look at just about all of the vendors becayse you never know what they have. A friend that will remain nameless went to the GM Nationals the other year and came across an NOS right side inner fender!! 25.00!!! Chevy guy had it and did not know what it was! Well Hershey Next Week!! Paul Gawel
I bought a nice qjet core for $20 that was a 71 455 model. 7041540 - will make a nice driver when I send mine to John Osborne this winter:Brow:
Al, Are you going to Hershey? I never been to their car show and was wondering what its like. I heard there are a lot of top notch cars at the show. Any vendors like Carlisle? Is there a web site that has directions to the show?
John, Hershey is the largest in the world. 1/2 million people from all over the world attend. The swap meet starts on Wed. and the big show is on Sat. Over 1800 of the finest show cars are judged that day. You can get more imfo at AACA. org If you make it look me up on the show field class 38. I will be showing my 70 GS Conv. Paul Gawel
Hershey is tops no question If you want to see the cars go on Saturday, if you want to get parts go on Wed, Thurs, Fri. No matter what day you go get there at dawn. How do you get there, just follow the crowd:laugh: :af: If any of you are going West on the Pa Pike watch out for a Model T style car that is going down the road at less than traffic flow speed with a fellow in the rumble seat flashing a small flashlight at you. Seen this two years and one of these mornings there is going to be a Model T buried in the front of a KW.ou: See ya all there Sat.:TU:
hershey is tops, no question doug you are so right about hershey. it is the best show on earth bar none. saturday is a great car show, but like you say, if you want parts you must go before then. most parts vendors are done by saturday, the few who are open have been cherry picked. before dawn is the only time to arrive. most the parts are for older cars like the 10s-50s but there is some 60s-70s parts. a model T on the turnpike in the dark, ? that guy is brave. you know what 80,000 lbs of KW will do to a model T @ 70 mph ? there wouldnt be anything to clean up. enjoy hershey, i hope all that pavement doesnt ruin it all. i kinda miss the mud, even though i've seen parts float right by me when the water's deep. weatherman says no more rain this week, we'll see. henry white 1940 dodge coupe 1970 GS 350 1970 GS 455 1970 STAGE 1 four speed, numbers matching 1987 dodge W 250 one tough 4x4 2002 silverado like a rock

Appreciate the info everyone. Paul I'll be looking for ya on Saturday. I wish I could get down there before Saturday but with work, Just don't think it will be possible unless I feel sick on Wednesday or Thursday... Henry, Sometime You'll have to stop down at the Subway in Poolesville on a Thursday around 7:30 in the morning. I deliver down there every week. Must say its a quiet town but it has a lot of charm. I was telling the guys at the store about Lanah from Poolesville being on the "Bachelor" and they had no idea. It was nice to see a small town gal get on the show but unfortunately, she was booted off last week...
