Do Carbs have some type of stamping # on them. I am looking to put an original carb on my 1969 GS 400.
I dont have the original Carburetor on my car because the person I bought the car from put an upgrade carb on and while keeping the original parts some BUM stole them..

If so what code, or stamping # should I look for...

To clarify my ??? do the carb and manifolds have your vin # stamped on them or just a date code.

Depends on the build date of your car, you cant have a carb that was built much after your car and engine. Did you get my last email on the Olds??:Do No:

The carb numbers for a 69 should be 7029243 manual trans and 7029242 auto trans. The date code should precede the build date on your cowl tag. Example...10A,10B,10C...Whatever the date on your car actually is.

SO my build date reads as 07c

What should i look for on the carb and intake..
Does it also work the same on distributor???

Your car was built in the 29th week of 69 between July 13 and July 19.I think parts built prior to the car up to a couple months date are acceptable. The carbs seem to have been built in batches as well as distributors as well. So,an exact date match isn't necessarily right between the carburetor and distributor.

So I dont need an exact match between the carb, intake, and distributor as long as the are near the build date????

    Or did I mis understand???

I would try to match the intake close to your heads/block numbers within a few days etc, but you are right the carb and distributor doesn't have to exactly match with each other.

There can be crazy long spreads between build dates on parts. My 71 was late March car. All engine cast componants were Februay cast. but my rear end was built only a week before the car. The frame was made in August of 70! It has correct part # and VIN and mounts were rotted so I know it was never changed. So I would say you could make a case for any part made before your car might be correct.
