i've got a 1975 455 in a 64 rivi along with a edelbrock performer intake & 750 cfm edelbrock performer carb. after listening to the talk on carbs i think i need to go back to the quadrajet. my question is do i go back to the 1975 carb and intake or is there a better set up as far as years? i'm running 1970 heads, bored .030 over, comp cam and lifters, stock exhaust (headers won't fit). also who do you suggest as a good carb rebuilder and distributor man? i know i need a new distributor. any ideas? thanks, duane

John Osbourne...is he the Q-jet guru? A little help, Buick guys, I'm almost 32 and the mind has definitely gone purple monkey dishwasher.

As far as the intake goes, I have the edelbrock as well. there are better performing manifolds from TA performance, depending on your build up, of course. When choosing a manifold, the first thing I asked was: will my hood still shut? Seems funny, but since I'm unfamiliar with the clearance in the Riv, I'd worry about that first and foremost. The Edelbrock is a good choice because it will definitely clear the stock hood. I'm not so sure about other manifolds...but TA has several types for the 455 now.

hedworth racing in missouri does stock & superstock q-jets, allstate carb and fuel injection (new york) will also get in an rework the stock circuits they are on the net, i also see the carb shop in ontario although under new ownership is still doing q-jets. if you can get to a nhra national meet i'd talk to some stock and superstock guys and see who they are relying on. as far as stock intake/carb combinations there are a couple '71-'72 stock eliminator gran sports running low 11's with the factory cast iorn intake, q-jet and stock lift cam, so the power is there. you just gotta coax it out of that beast. good luck
