Car Organizer or Car Caddy

This past weekend me and the wife took the 55 out for lunch to a local Sonic (all the other Drive Ins are closed). On the way I stopped in a PEP Boys to look for some type of old school Car Caddy to put on the center hump.

Well as you all know if you weren't looking for something to hold your lap top or DVD player you're out out luck.

As I remember there was a type that was kinda square and had a sort of bean bag on either side......just spend 30 minutes on line and could not find any.

Anyone have any ideas where I might find one? Thanks

I tried to find the same thing and couldn't. I ended up buying a cheap one from Autozone. It had space for two cup holders and a center area for "stuff". It had mounting holes to use screws to fasten it to the floor -- which I didn't want to do. Instead, I just wedge it under the front bench. It works OK, but I won't do any hard cornering with sodas in it!

I remember exactly what you are talking about. I think in the 70's about half the cars on the road had them.
When I read this I started looking, but no luck. It would be another good vintage touch if anyone makes them.

Show a picture to your local lady who does the alterations at your dry cleaners- if you provide the materials and a good drawing and measurements, I bet you end up with a cool, custom fit MADE IN USA product for the price of a nice lunch.

Yep, you're right I guess they went the way of the 8 tracks.........I going to keep looking and will post if I find one. I also just picked one up from PEP Boys $4.99 no holes, but it does have these little teeth that grip the carpet. It's just not the vintage look.

That link has a good selection, but as best as I can tell non of them would stay in place on top of the trans hump without being screwed into the floor.

Probably good products, but the correct vintage product that everyone had has a bean bag that hangs over each side of the transmission hump to hold it in place. There use to be bean bag ashtrays also that would stay put where ever you put them.
I don't think he's just looking for function, but also something that is a nice throwback to the 70's and maybe the 60's. (I don't remember much about 60's accessories!)

That's it, I really wanted the old school look that I remember from the late 60's.......Although my 55 is what my father had, I do not remember him having the caddie.

So, lets put together a design of the bean bag model and lets get it made in China!!

OK V-8 Buick People: I can not remember how many of those I threw out while detailing the cars on my car lot. Maybe hundreds? Mitch

Now that's funny! I don't care who you are.

You know, I was thinking the same thing. I never had a job where I had to detail cars so I never ran across the number of them, but I was thinking of how many got tossed.

I'm going to keep looking. I can't believe that no one makes them. Simple and cheap and car guys all want the correct vintage looking stuff for their car. After reading this, I got to thinking I would like one for my car. One with the slots for 8 track tapes.
Cars can be time machines, but you have to have all the right stuff to make it work!

GS, was that suppose to be "NOT" Funny? Only half kidding about the China thing.........

Great to see I'm not the only one interested in somthing like this. My wife reminded me last night that we have seen several at the Cruise nights we attend, I'm making it point to ask the owner of the next car I see where he got. I assumed that when I was ready to purchase it would be easy to find.

I did purchase curb feelers from a place out West, I'll have to find their site..........

If I see "made in China" or the like, I tend to try not to buy it. I try to buy import junk only when it's a must have and I can't find it made in America.
That's not saying that we don't have a bunch of made over seas junk in my house, but I do my best to not buy it and I would certainly never have anything but a fortune cookie made there on purpose.

I thought maybe JC Whitney would still have those old style caddies listed, but nothing on their site.

There wasn't anything like that in the accessories pamphlet from 63. But the Litter Basket probably had what you were looking for in order to hold it in place.
Maybe looking in antique stores/pawn shops?? I've been looking for one of these litter baskets for quite awhile. No luck though. The weights are filled with very small lead beads.

That trash bin is the right idea Evan, but I don't think that the little bin's were ever offered as a factory option.

The trash bin is the closet I've seen but thought there was one with little storage areas.

Just went on blue auto parts, it seems to link to several other sites......checking them now
