Canyou run pump gas in a methanol carburettor?

Hi guys, a buddy of mine has just bought a Holley 950 double pumper but it turns out its the version for use with methanol.

Apparently this means the butterflys are of a different material to the usual 4150 carbs.

Does this mean the carb will not be able to be used with pump gas?

Or is it a case of moddifying the carb in some way?

    Anyone know?

Alcohol has much less heat or BTU's than good gas and therefore to achieve the correct air/fuel ratio you have to run much larger jets using alcohol.
Barry Grant or one of the other carb wizards should be able to set it up for your friend's application.

Per Mike's response it takes approximately twice the alcohol to make the same power as you get from gasoline. A car getting 20 mpg on gas will only get 10 mpg on moonshine; a function of the rejetting issue. Because it has some of the same properties as water (which many of us know all too well) :Brow: , alcohol is also corrosive so some gasoline fuel system components are incompatible with shine. But, this should not be a problem the other way around.

I agree that converting back to gas should only require jet changes. The rest of the alcohol parts should work fine with gas. But I would check woith one of the carb specialists to make sure. Easier to check than pay big money for a mistake.
