    Hi all

Here is a good one, need some ideal how to resolve.

Before taking my trans and shifter out a while ago, the shift can be made in all gears including reverse without any issues

Installed new clutch, TO Bearing and pilot bushing now the trans will shift in all gears except reverse. Here are some of the things I know that works. I removed the shifter and manually can shift into all gears including reverse. Put the shifter back and again all gears work except reverse. It seems the shifter doesn't want to get into the reverse gear by holding the shifter in neutural and snapping it into the left and up for reverse gear.

BTW - My car can't be moved because it doesn't have front sheet metal and front suspension.

Let me know what you all think!

On the very bottom of the housing of the shifter there is a notch, and each lever has a hole in it. Remove the linkage arms from either the shifter or the transmission and make sure the transmission arms are in their neutral position, then line up the arms on the shifter and stick a 1/4" drill bit in where those holes are. Go all the way through until you feel that the arms are now locked into place. This lines up the neutral gate. With the drill bit in place, adjust and re-connect your linkage, then pull the drill bit out. Sometimes they need a little fine tuning after this step but in most cases you should be good to go now.

I heard about this and will try it. My question is what is lining up all three levers to neutral do to allowing reverse to work. I can understand that lining up the levers and adjusting the linkage but I can shift into all the gears without any problems with the exception of reverse. Again I will try it and see if it works!

    Thanks George

It's just a matter of having the gates lined up. You could have the 1-2 gate and the 3-4 gate lined up and it'll work just fine, but if you don't also have the reverse gate lined up then the pin in the shifter won't slip into the reverse arm from neutral.

I can't believe how easy it was to make the shifter adjustment! If I was a betting man I would of taken the bet it wasn't a shifter adjustment issue. So just to inform you all that I lost the bet and it shifts soooooo smooth thru all the gears including reverse. :TU:

    Thanks for all your help!
