I have a 66 buick special 2 dr hardtop sedan, and I am talking to a guy that has some parts that are off of a 66 special 4 door. Can I use any of the inetior parts(door panels, chrome, ect..) and any of the exterior parts(chrome, bumper, and grill)?? Will any of the parts fit my 2 dr?? I am in need of some answers in that I need to give the guy an answer soon in if I want it or not. Does anyone know??:Do No:

    Thanks
    Neil

    Neil,
The instrument panel will interchange, but that's about it. No interior door panels etc will swap. Exterior wise, front end sheet metal, grille, bumpers, etc. will interchange. Likewise at the rear, rear bumper, taillights, deck lid (I think). The middle of the car is just about worthless to you, except for the stray moulding or two...

What about the seats, will 4 dr seats fit in my 2 dr??

I don't have anything, book wise, that tells me if it will work or not. I do know the 4 dr front seat does NOT fold forward, so getting into the back would be a chore.

Do you have an idea if some bucket seats and rear seat out of a 67 or 68 camero will fit my 66 special?? Let me know if you think it will work

    Thanks

buckets and rear seat out of any 66 or 67 buick, olds, pontiac, chevy, that has the same body style as yours should work, however each manufacturer ( spelling ?) often had their own fabric patterns that didnt match each others, chaz

I think the best thing to do is ace all your tests and worry about fixing up the car after finals. jmho

    BUSTED!!!

    Neil,

You've been busted!!! Hit the books...NOW! That car will be still there AFTER you passed your tests...(speaking in my best "fatherly" tone). So will the parts.

Get your education first, then worry about an old car. With an education, you will be able to afford all the parts you need WITH a good job, but your job right now is getting that education. Knowledge is something no one can take away from you. I expect a progress report from time to time so we may "keep up" with your progress in your course work. What is your major? What do you want to do with your education? Do you have a plan??? You better! You will be surprised at how smart your parents will become as you get older. Listen to them now...they really have your best interest at heart.

    Now, hit the books!

PS: Thanks Dad for letting us know what Neil's first priority should be...we'll all keep an eye on him!

    Neil,

About the front seat, I know that some fullsize cars that had the notchback seat (individual backrests and center armrest) had an added bracket that didn't allow the seatbacks to fold. Removing it would allow the seatbacks to fold but they wouldn't lock like they should on 67 and later cars.
I presume the same is true for Skylarks/Specials.
From what my litterature says, the 67 Special Deluxe could have been ordered with the notchback seat just like the Skylark and GS. But I have not seen one yet.
I don't know much about the 66 but it's possible that some came with the same notchback seat. Since the 66 and older didn't have seatback locks, you could probably convert a notchback seat from a four door to a correct folding seatback for a two door.
If the 4 door you saw has the regular bench seat, It wouldn't work.
