Uhhhh folks nowhere did I say a turbo was cheap. My point is that the magazines argue bang for the buck. The more lead footed drivers may see that it's still cheaper to run nitrous, but I'm sure some of that bang-buck is diminished with multiple fill-ups before the month is even over. As for the 7k twin turbo quote, that is insane. Especially considering you have fuel injection. Unless they are talking about upgrading your entire drivetrain for that price too, I wouldn't use them. Besides, a 350 can get up to 800hp or more with a single turbo. Don't go too crazy with turbo size and lag won't be an issue. BTW, I'm not saying our 350s can hold 800hp. Over the long haul, I'd rather go turbo. I don't feel the costs would be that much greater for a turbo than nitrous (again over the long haul). I'm not knocking nitrous, I'm simply not interested in using a power adder that I can run out of.
I wouldn't mind a Procharger myself, got power all the time. Iam mainly looking at Nitrous as a track only item, like at the BPG nats. Definitely would give those 455 boys a surprise. Besides who else has Nitrous on there 350 BUICK. People already ask me if I have a 455 in it and when I tell them it is a 350 BUICK they are even more surprised.
I decided to change cams now and what I am going to do is try a solid lifter cam here is what I decided to try
I also did a leakdown test last spring to see if the engine was able to take a cam change here are results of that and this is after all those nitrous runs. I had also did a compression test and that came out to 190 so I thought that it would take a cam change.
When I took the the shaft with rollers on it i saw we had a problem the berarings from the roller rockers had dug into the shafts. You can see why in the pics as the bearing inside the cage has a lot of separation between each one. The new ones are a lot tighter, so if you have TA roller rockers from the 90's you should take them apart and check this. I bought all new bearings and they were not cheap 9-12$ each depending on where you get them. I was able to get them locally for a good price.
I also bought some EDM lifters with the hole in bottom so I could get better oiling to cam. I have the totally adjustable TA front cover that has larger holes and the larger gears and 5/8 pickup, I never had a problem with this setup so going to go with that also.
DO IT Guy!!! Hopefully you and I can make it to the Buick Bash at Quaker this spring! It would be fun to line up with each other I dropped my heads off at Michaels this past Thursday for the valve grind and taking .040 off the surface for a tad more squeeze, I wanna push the compression as much as I can. I have a theory that has no scientific basis that a smaller than 4" bore can tolerate more compression without detonation than a larger bore
No that isn't old news that was just talk news like goes on here all the time Everybody does it you just talk about it and type it and pump everyone up. Well now it is new news since now the motor is actually apart now, see how that works, talk about it, then tear it apart, its only been 3 years not that long in the Buick 350 world. Plus I had to do all the tests in previous posts above that take time and you got a bonus by seeing my cam card that I did not show before. See all apart now I even decided to take the inner spring out to help save the cam from all that pressure used this nice spring compressor. Tip of the day take note. So you know these things take time it is all the small stuff that takes up your time. My goal is to make Quaker on June 15. If not I will root for Demko he might be back together by then.lol You know if those Aluminum heads were available I might be able to buy them now or next year for sure if I don't like how this all turns out. But will they be there or is that really it and the end of it. They can sell me Demko's pair lol. .
