Bought this 4 speed transmission a few years ago from a guy cleaning out his garage. He said it's from a "1962 Buick". Took it to a trans shop locally and they couldn't identify it other than it being a T10, so I am asking for your help. I'd like to put it up on eBay/Craig's list but need to fully understand what it is. The internals look good, and spins freely. The shifter is an oddball and I was told it was an original Chevy 409 shifter but it doesn't make much sense. 10 Spline output shaft Identifiers; Main housing: T10-1B W.G.DIV. Q2 G24G2 Tail shaft: WQ (ORG) DIV T10-7B End of tail housing: 7/17/62 Case Cover; 7 25 62A Shifter: ??? See pics Thanks.. Mike
For the case, I think G24G2 is probably G2462 G = July 24 = 24th day of month 62 = 1962 So the case would have been made 7/24/1962. I think that date is too late in the year to be for a 1962 model year car. The switch over to the new model year usually occurred the last week of July or the first week of August, so I think this was probably out of a 1963 model year car. Assuming it is from a Buick, for the 1962 model year, the Dynaflow automatic was the only transmission available in fullsize cars, so if it is for a 1962 model year car it would be from a Special/Skylark.
I was also told the Buick T10 used a yoke specific where it bolts onto the end of the tailshaft, which this trans has. No other GM application used this except Buick in the early years. a (Not sure if theres any truth to it though) Mike
Hi,it's a 1962 Skylark.I removed one from a car back in 1971.it will not work in a Chevrolet as pictured. You have to replace the mainshaft with the Chev style. Also the 62 Chev T-10 had an Aluminum main case.If you look at the shifter location, the shift body is bolted to the front set of mounting holes.on a Chev the shifter is the "Spaghetti"type but mounts in the rear set of holes. The useage could have been late production 1962 and they may have run this trans in 63 as well but I can't say for sure.the rest of the info is correct.Bill
