I slipped the cam in today. My timing set allows me to advance it 2 degrees. I was wondering if I should advance it 2 deg or just go straight up? 72 350- full wieght 4 dr skylark, 2.56 gears/stock converter the cam is TA 212 Other mods are- comp headers, TA intake, ported heads with big valves, milled .060, should end up with low 9's compression I figure.... Whats the opinions?
I installed mine straight up........same cam, in a 70 10.25:1 But!........ I would definitely call Dave or Mike at T/A and tell them what you have and see what they have to say. They can be very helpful.
What size valves did you go with? 1.92s and 1.55s? I've been thinking about getting a set of heads done. If it helps you, dave at TA recomended that I advance my TA 212 cam +4*. My larks a 2 door with 2.5" exhaust, super comp headers, 3.55 posi, (and soon to be added) TA intake, 800 cfm spread bore dbl pumper, and 2500 rpm stall converter.
ya, I used the TA oversized valves. Hopefully, I'll let you know how well the work by monday! I think I'm gonna do the 2 deg advance then. Just got my comp chrome headers in today! I'm so excited, just wish it was a little warmer today... well, I'm off to go degree my cam and put everything together!
just set it at the 2 deg mark, and degreed it on the wheel, came up dead on what the cam card said, -2, which puts it right on. Time to go back out and bolt some heads on!!!
:ball: I wish I would have had the extra cash when I ordered my headers to get the coated ones, they must look great.
The TA performance headers are only $20 more for chrome! For that price there's no reason not to! Got one head in place, gotta look up the torque chart then go back out... hopefully get both heads on today, then tommarow get the intake on, bolt the headers up, put the front of the engine back on, put the radiator and all that back in... then sunday rig up the exhuast, break in the cam, and go rollin'!!! I'm so excited!!!!!!
