looking to change the cam in my 350. it's from a '70 GS, pertronix ignition, stock except for headers. was rebuilt by the last owner, but i need to resolve some head issues, so while i crack it open i figure i'll change the cam and the lifters. what do you guys recommend if i'd like something a little lopey but not too wild for my setup?

coupe Q's...i've seen some grinds with the same lift and/or duration on the intake and exhaust...is this bad? other cams may have a lot more on the exhaust side...what the are reasons for each grind? with unported heads, what are the numbers i should look for?

With all my playing around with Dyno 2000, the TA 212 seems to be one of the best all around cams for most "near stock" engines... It should work really well with the high compression 70 engine, it makes a lot of torque and keeps the horsepower up as well, some cams will make the same power but less torque.

I had a Poston GS114 in my last GS 350, but if I were to do it again I would probably go with a TA 212.

You WILL need to change to high performance valve springs, the stock springs will let the valve float too much.

Are you sure? The tech at TA perfomance told me that stock replacement / or original springs (in good shape of coarse) would work fine with my TA 212 cam.

I ordered the dual springs when I ordered my 212 cam...... I was going to put them in after the cam was broke in. I ended up reselling the springs after I did some double checking. TA told me that the stock springs would work fine.... I was just playing it safe so I had them in case I needed them while tore apart.
The stock springs run good in mine and do rev to 5500 if I desire...... though 5000 is as far as I take it normally since thats when she's all done gaining power.

I used the TA stage 1 performance spring with my 212... I figured I'd go a little bit more than needed... you definatly don't want to use more of a spring than you need...
I pulled mine to 6K twice, 2.56 gears at 6k = 70MPH in first!, and it pulled strong up there, and I think it has more R's left in it... don't wanna risk breaking anything trying to find out... I just gotta get around to getting it back on the road!
I defiantly would not use your original springs, maybe stock replacement, after 30 years... I think it's time for some new ones...
