    Hey all,

I have a six month old daughter, and I have been wanting to take her for a ride in the GS. I was just wondering what any of your experiences have been with straping in a baby seat in the back of the convert? Do they like/dislike the wind? Is it a pain in the but? Does it mess up the old seat at all? Any experiences are welcome, I am trying to convince my wife that it is OK. Thanks everyone!

Same boat, she loves the noise

I am just piggy backin'. Want to know what is out there. I have been told Simpson has one, but not sure how to put it in these older cars with out that little clip under the seat?

To protect the seat cover, put a piece of thick carpet - fuzzy side down - on the seat before you strap in the child seat.

    Hi Mike -

IMHO - It's pretty tight back there, especially when you add the fact you need a rear-facing car seat in NJ for a child under one. I would wait until your daughter is able to be seated in a forward position before she cruises in the Buick. I don't believe there would be a safe means to correctly fasten a rear-facing car seat in the back of these cars (unless you have rear shoulder belts which my car does not). :Smarty:

I didn't take my son for a ride until he was about two. My car has the notch-back seat (with armrest) and I placed a thick towel on the rear seat and secured his car seat in the middle using the factory seatbelts. The buckle is big, and it's right in the middle of the 'lower-back' section of the car seat. I also placed a small towel there for his comfort so the buckle didn't dig into his back. He was secured using the 5-point harness in the seat itself. I really wasn't thrilled that his feet extended through the front seat and rested on my armrest, but what are you going to do?

Due to the wind, and the fact we were driving a distance, I left the top up and put the A/C on (it was a July 4th picnic about 90 minutes away). With highway speeds, I think it's too windy for a young child. We've gone around the block, but haven't yet gone on a long trip with the top down.

I'd like to know how you put two seats back there :pp

Are you coming to Yardley's crib on May 6th for the Buick picnic?

Well, the first ride in a convertible is an experience for the small one and the older one too.
I was convinced it was the 4yr old grandson's time to cruise.Booster seat strapped in the back seat behind the drivers side just perfect....it was time...
put the kid in his seat, seat belt just tight enough, his buick cap on, brim tilted just slightly to the side and to complete the appearence a pair of orange wrap around sunglasses. :TU: Are you ready? He said lets go...Top went down...big grin on his face.......before we went a mile.....speed was 35mph...he's yelling "its to loud"....before 2 miles, he's lost his hat and shades and he's kicking the back of my seat, his arms are waving over his head and he's screaming "SLOW DOWN GRANDDADDY YOU'RE GOING TO FAST!"......You would have thought I had a 90yr strapped in the back seat :Dou: ....the smile on his face when we got home was more than worth it................but putting ketchup in the 1/4 ashtrays so he could dip his french fries in was a pain in the ass to clean up.....ya gotta watch em every minute.
    Hope this answers your question.

Thanks to all, I guess I will wait a while before I take her for a spin. She loves sitting the drivers seat! (not moving of course).

Marco, how are things, I have not talked to you in a while. I won't be making Yardleys this year. I was thinking about it. My buddy has been bugging me to go to the "Nam Knights" show on May 7th in Carlsdat (SP) for while. I am going to head down there. With the little one, my wife only lets me out to play darts and show my ride once in a while.

So what is the story with Yardley's, all are welcome?

    Talk to you soon.

PS, I think I am going to need to pick your brain on some engine stuff, I think I might need some carb/tranny help. Are you up for it?

Six months is a little young to put in a convertable.

But my 4 year old grandson went to chuch last Sunday with me and he told me we had to take the GS!!

    That was a hard sell.

On the way home he MADE me stop and do a hole shot. :3gears:
The words Papa do a burnout are music to my ears! :beer

Bring them up right I always say.

Marco pretty much hit the nail on the head with his description (that buckel lands right sqare in the middle of the little ones back).
I am currently trying to figure out how to install shoulder belts in the back of my '68 convertible so that I can take my 5 year old, in his booster seat, for a ride :Do No:

Any ideas what to do in this situation? He is still required to use a booster seat and the lap belt alone is not the correct way to strap him in.

I hear 'ya Mike. In NJ, a child is not allowed in the front seat unless there's no rear seat, until they are 8. :af:

Are all other states this tough?

The Fisher Body manual shows the anchoring points for the rear shoulder belts, but the belts themselves would probably be difficult to locate. I'd use the lap belt for a 'local' cruise.

    Marco,

I talked to a NYS trooper and asked him about having a car seat in the front of the Buick and if it was OK since it does not have an airbag, he really did not seem to know the answer :Dou: Sitting in the front really would not help now since I don't have front shoulder belts either :(

I am going to look into rear shoulder belts from a newer car ( the one piece shoulder/lap belt style) and seeing if I can make them attach to the correct mounting points in the Buick. I know they would not be correct for '68 but if I can make them fit "correctly" that would be great.

Either that or have a custom belt made so that it would reach the proper anchor point in the convertible.

    BF2KNIGHT Buickless for now

Now, my girls are older (5, 5, and 9), but have been riding in the Lesabre for several years. Fortunately, the back seat is pretty large and my oldest isn't in a car seat anymore. But when I had the Lebaron (only 4 seats), the oldest sat up front for short distances. Either car, they LOVE the top down. Haven't gone on a long cruise yet with the Buick. I was recently in Houston with my oldest and ended up with a convertible rental. Guess what, the top was down most of the time, even on the trip to Galveston. There is just something about a convertible.....

My opinion on the little one, wait. Maybe cruise around the block to give her a taste, but I would wait at least until she's in a booster.

Kelly Eber I'd rather be racing

I took my 6 month old son for a ride in my 68. I decided to put him in the front seat so I could keep an eye on him and so that the wind would not be so bad. We just drove around the block a couple of times. I think I had more fun than he did, he was just watching things go by.

They make these seatbelt seats that worked well while they were still in the booster seat. I just bought three sets of "junior dragster" 5 point harnesses that I will put in for the booster seats in the GS. They will work in place of the non existent shoulder belts! :bglasses:
