This evening I took the time to install the rocker set-up that I recieved from mark last week. I must say well done guy's I believe that Mark and Sean worked on this deal and it fit perfect with no issues that I ran into. I followed his intruction on how to install them on my heads and BAM 1.5 hours later I was loading them into my truck. I took them to the race shop and installed a couple of valves and the rockers. geomertry appeared to look good and spring clearance was fine. I took a couple of pics so take a look and give mark a call.

I'm confused. Did you do the machine work on the heads or did Mark? Looks great. ...and who's PAM and can you post a pic of her?

    Justa350 I'm BACK!

Actually, I sent instructions for Bobb to do the machine work from. I can do the machine work, or you can have your local shop do it.

Sorry, but no pricing just yet. A couple details to finalize, but I'll post up as soon as I'm done.

Does it require machine work to the head? Are you ready to design one for the 455? Ill give it a try on mine.

Yes it does require some machine work on the heads but it is very simple and can be done by anyone with a mill. I believe mark is working on a set-up for a 455 or at least I hope so i have one sold I think so he better get to it LOL. I even had a guy look at the 350 deal and said we need to do it for his v-6. Mark is really putting forward alot of effort in gatting some less expensive alterintives for the 350 so when you have an Idea for somthing toss it up and maybe he will look at building it.

Nessessity leads to innovation! Te high cost of BBB rollers can provide a new solution. ON the BBB if you choose the Eldebrock heads they use Chev rollers. I love that guys are finally noticing the 350 Buick!

That rocker setup looks awesome.:TU: Is that bar stock thick enough? I have read that the one problem with the Buick pedestal design is that the outer rockers are not supported like a Mopar's and cause the shaft to flex. Is that problem resolved using the flat bar stock to support the assembly?

It is a very solid setup, I was there while Mark milled up my head for a trial assembly and saw no need to go any thicker on the flatbar.

I think Sean was too busy tearing apart my other engine and drinking beer to notice really! :)

hey mark i'm sure this will work on a buick 300 but just wondering if the steel bar and the aluminum head would have an adverse effect?

    Mark,
I am truly impressed! Leave it to a machinist to figure these things.
Some have been looking at these heads for years trying to figure a alternative for rollers. You made it look too simple.
I'm finally getting back on track with the budget so I'll be ready for some Burton goodies shortly.:Brow:
Hmmmm. I just sent two sets of heads that I did over the winter to be flowed. If they are up to snuff for the small beast, maybe a conversion will be in order. I could definitely give the setup a "stress test".:)

Nice looking setup. Any clearance problems with stock or after market valve covers?

I'm curious to know if the bar could be machined to mount over the top of the rocker shaft stands. I thought that might add more rigidity and/or allow you to install them without having to machine your heads. (Big selling point)

A stud girdle would also help with deflection on the outer rockers.

So guys I have read there was concern about shaft flex so I decided that I would do some testing to see what we could come up with. First I put a valve in place and locked it down. Then I installed the rocker arm. Once that was done I put my on head valve spring tester on it. The more you pull the more pressure it will shoow lbs it takes to move the spring. But with the valve locked down it will pull on the end of the shaft just like if it was running but worse because the force will be focused on the end of the shaft. I installed an indicator to give me a reading on movement. This is what I found.

    100lbs 0 movement
    200lbs 0 movement
    300lbs 0 movement
    350lbs .0005 movement
    400lbs .001 movement

I did not go any higher due to that fact there isn't much point in higher than that unless you are going to run a roller and at that point you need to look at the higher end set up. But I really feel that this is a great budget minded set-up and shows no major down falls that I have seen yet I will run this set-up and pound it hard you can count on that.

    Thanks Bobb!!

That really is good news for those considering going this route. My next engine might be a 350 for the reliability factor. Now that guys like Mark are making parts the choice is getting easier.
