Hey I have a quick question. I think I have found a bumper at a local salvage yard, but it is not connected to a car. I heard that for a '72 skylark, which is what I have that only a '72 bumper will fit. Is there any truth to this? If so what is the main difference between the years of '70-'72 and how can I tell I have found the right bumper. Thanks - Danny

'72 Front bumper is the same as '71, except it has a Rubber Strip that goes along the front of it.:TU:

And a rear bumper will fit every year across the board however the gas tank neck from 70-71or2 will not have the correct angle to put gas in. 70 is a year on its own for the neck 71 /2 will be the same angle..

'70 Rear Bumper says "BUICK" BETWEEN the 2 Taillights!

'71 Rear Bumper has NO "Buick" emblem (because it was on the Trunk Lid, instead!)

'72 Rear Bumper has a SMALL "BUICK" plate towards the TOP part of the bumper!

Also, '72 is the ONLY year to have RUBBER MOLDINGS around each of the TAILLIGHTS!

    :TU:

Does ANY of this HELP you?:TU::grin:

I have a "matching" pair on my '72 GS! No, I don't mean they're for sale, I mean they LOOK just like that! I don't know why they do that, but that "spiderweb" effect on those bumpers is a common thing, for some reason.:Do No:

Looks like you have a pretty "decent" Rear Bumper, though, as far as the Rubber Trim around the Taillights! That's about "impossible" to find (in GOOD shape!)!:TU:

You really only have a few options here:

    1) Send your Front Bumper to be "straightened" and "rechromed"
    2) Send your Rear Bumper to be "Rechromed"
    3) Find "Replacement" Bumpers (which will probably be AS MUCH or MORE than having yours RECHROMED, anyway!)
    OR
    4) Drive it like it is, and don't be too "worried" about it

If you're in Michigan, I just found a place in Chicago that will rechrome the Front and Rear ('70) bumpers for about $500.
I got a business card at a swap meet, so I'd have to look it up for you, if you're interested.:TU:

Like I said, with " '72 " Bumpers, that Rubber Trim is almost "impossible" to replace. If you send them to a Bumper Shop to be Rechromed, make SURE that they DON'T DAMAGE those RUBBER STRIPS for EITHER BUMPER!:Smarty: There are Aftermarket ones available, but last time I checked, the Rear ones (that go around the Taillights), were $300 for a PAIR!:eek2: I'll just keep my ORIGINAL ones, thank you!
