In response to my own post, p I just watched Back To The Future Part 2 recently. In the "future," the bad guys pull a driveby shooting and try to kill thier old school teacher. In the driveby, they're all piled in a Blue 69 Skylark Convertible. The decklid is removed and one sniper is shooting out of the trunk space. Vanilla Sky is another. I will never have respect for Cameron Diaz, she jumped a 70 Skylark off of a bridge! As for that britney spears movie, I watched it too. It was way too girly, (and lame) but she drove a 72 Skylark Ragtop. I know it was just a movie, but I wish I could meet more girls who drive a Skylark convertibles. :Brow: :Brow:
I'm pretty sure it's Diamond Rio's music video the song might be titled "Just Before Dark" in which they use a 72 GS convt. Very very cool :TU: Saw it only once.....
if you want you can try to contact my ex-gf.....she used to drive my skylark convertible and my (now departed) 68' sportwagon 400 all the time!!! it is cool to see a 23 year old girl doing 85 on the highway with a sportwagon!!! the current gf (soon to be wife) is awesome and is slowly but surely getting in to the Buicks. all those years of living in OH and rebelling against Buicks and she winds up in NYC with a Buick Nut!!! on another note, i live in Staten Island, NY and the huge cars for movies broker in NYC in located here. The skylark in vanilla sky was actually about SIX of them. I saw in his lot, SIX blue 70' skylarks five of which were smashed up and the sixed one was purty. I wondered what the hell they were for until I saw Vanilla Sky. If anyone is in NYC, remember the broker pays YOU $500 a day for your car-most of time they just sit on the street in "period" pieces. One guy I bought parts of off has a few restored musclecars and he has made over $6000 the past few years renting his cars out for movies. If they want to drive said car it gets upped to something like $1500 a day.
My bud produces commercials, music videos, etc. - he wanted to use my car for a video and I thought COOL !!! . ....until I talked to the camera crew - and how they mount the camera.....and actuially WATCHED what and how they use a car No Thanks !!!
Kevin hate to hijack the post but Olds fans have a few movies out there also. Demolition Man and that W-30 is too cool. I also noticed that Woody Harrelson or someone close to him must be an Olds fan. Almost every movie that he is in has an Olds in it. Usually a convertable. Good topic bro er I mean nephew.
Catch it when you can. Just saw "Catch me if you can" Tom Hanks and Lenni the kid. Move was OK but it was full of 50's and 60's cars. They must of had different clubs do different days of shooting as you would see 3-4 Caddies then 3-4 Olds and 3-4 Buicks at different times. Lots of cars but my wife got tired of me stopping and backing up the movie to see what that was.
the movie "used cars" with curt russel had several buicks in it. i think when they maeasured th "mile of used cars", a buick was the last one in line that completed the mile when th license plate bracket spring luckily broke and caused the license to fall. there is a 74 lesabre vert in the movie "gas" for about 1 second.
Dolly Parton drove a 68 or 69 Skylark in 9 to 5. And for some reason I seem to remember seeing a Buick run into something in Hooper, just before they jump the fireturd.
Seabiscuit One of the nain characters in this "horse" movie is a brass era Buick dealer. Some cool background shots of the early model Buicks in a showroom, and a bunch of early race cars being wheeled into and out of a barn.
Hi Guys, Just sitting here with the TV on the USA Network watching a movie by the name of "The Substitute 2". A few minutes ago I was looking away from the TV but thought I heard a familiar sound, so I looked up and low and behold.....an '87 GN used as a getaway car doing a smokey 180* burnout after mugging some woman..or something like that.o No: Like I said I was looking away till I heard that familiar turbo spool!:TU: Just thought I'd share that one for all to keep a look-out for in the near future. We all know USA tends to do several runs of their movies.... Have a good one all....
Saw the movie "Dazed and Confused" the other night on Comedy Central. The one freshman (pitcher for the baseball team) gets bent over a brownish 71 Skylark, and whooped pretty good. It had a dent in the trunk lid, on the driver's side of the lock. Also, I'm sure there was at least one Buick in "American Graffiti". BTW...My buddy was paging through a Star or some other entertainment rag and found a pic of Darryl Hannah driving (and working on) a 68 or 69 Skylark Covert. I also heard that Sean Penn owns a 87 GN.
Don't forget Thunderbolt and Lightfoot Daisy Duke AND a 1973 Boattail Riv together in 1 flick! Also this movie about a guy stealing a car, with a rich girl in the booth. Later in that movie there's a Boattail Riv, saw that film back in 1997, can't remember the title. And in From Dusk till Dawn, you see a Boattail Riv in a trafficjam just before the Mexican border Also this film where a hired killer is driving in a Boattail, but Nicolas Cage is mistaken to be the killer. Red Rock West I believe?
