Well my last 4 cars have been Buicks and they were great....but I tend to get bored with the same make over time (except I will not have a Ford) and I am thinking of buying a early Barracuda to build into a pro touring resto mod. A lady in church has a 67 model with a six that's in pretty good condition. I would like feedback from the mopar guys and anyone else, is this a good car to build up and are parts easy to get. I would like to put a crate Motor and Trans with disk brakes all the way around and a good rear, with large wheels and tires.
why not a ............... With the Mopar guys running mostly GTXs, Road Runners and Challengers, I always wondered why there are no 'Cudas (or Barracudas)? Aren't they lighter? :3gears: How are Eddie and Valerie bye the way?
Barracuda Thanks for the replys, I was not thinking of this for the FAST class but more along the lines of a Resto-Mod with alot of aftermarket parts. What I really wanted to know was how much do the 68/69 Barracudas bring for a solid driver needing a resto?? David
Probably in the $5000 range if it doen't need a lot of misc. stuff-chrome work, missing trim, body work and so forth. You can use the existing K member and buy a set of Schumacher mounts to mount either a SB or a B/RB engine. You can pirate a disc set-up off a 73 Duster/Dart Sport/Valiant/Swinger and swap it onto yours. Or you can buy a modern conversion. Also, while your at it, change over the rear axles to a set with the 5x41/2" bolt pattern. Doing the above front brake convert will automatically give you the large bolt pattern. TTi headers make an awesome set to fit any engine. Lots of parts out there. Either thru Year One, Paddock, Mopar Performance, and area swap meets. The prices on A-body Mopars is finally moving up. A lot of stuff at swaps has increased almost 50-75% in the last two years! You also have the higher desirability of the Barracuda, which translates into a higher resale. Even though the 67-68-69 are still considered an A-body. If that was a 1970-up E-body Cuda............well.........that same $5000 will buy you a convertible firewall and floor pan!!!!!!!!!
I think you should go for a '65 or '66 Barracuda. With the big, curved back glass, it looks like a mini- '71 or '72 boattail Riviera. See? That way you can stay in the Buick family. Besides, all that glass over the rear wheels has got to help traction.
Only problem is that the 64-65-66 A-bodies had the smallest engine compartments of the bunch. Even the small block 273s were a tight fit. And headers..................well, can you say "wheel well headers"???:3gears:
david, some of the nos parts for that car can be very hard to find, and expensive if you do find them. things like the big piece of die-cast near the back window are just about impossible to find nos. also grille sections, and items peculiar to the barracuda, although tail lenses are not too hard to find. henry
68 Barracuda Well I went and looked at it this weekend, it's a 68 coupe with rebuilt straight 6 and alot of new parts...brakes & lines, gas tank, crager s/s wheels and tires, runs great and it's all there as much as I can tell every bit of trim is on the car. a little rust in the usual places but a real clean and solid car to build. He wants maybe 5K but I was thinking around $3500.00 to 4000.00. He also has a 67 Conv. vith the small V8 in it in a little better shape but he want's maybe 7K for it. What do you all think!! Maybe I will stick with Buicks David
oops, i was thinking of the 65. the 67-68 doesnt have that trim. i think the 67-68 is a much better investment. his price doest seem high, but i like your idea better. i prefer the coupes myself. if its solid, with all those new parts, go for it. henry
