I was talking to a buddy yesterday evening, and we started talking about Buick motors in other vehicles besides a Buick. The thing that got me to thinking, was that after I get good use out of my 350, I am either going to end up selling the car w/ everything besides motor/trans./rear end(maybe), part it out, or just scrap it.(due to huge rust issues that are beyond repair basically) Anyhow, I am going to rebuild the motor, and maybe the transmission. The motor, I am going to rebuild using some high performance parts. I want it to make approximately 315(GS 350 High comp. motor basically) to maybe 350 horsepower.(shooting for RWHP #'s) As for the transmission, if it's still fresh, I won't rebuild it but if not, I will rebuild it and beef it up just a bit w/ a shift kit(maybe a Gear vendors overdrive, too) and maybe a good stall converter for my combo. I was thinking of installing this motor/trans. into an S-10, a skyhawk, an apollo, buick opel, ford ranger, or a Jeep even.(which a jeep is something that I have been really considering.) I know, I have some wild-haired ideas, but I know quite a few people have done stuff like this before. I thought maybe a 455 in something small would be cool. How about a 455 s-10? :Brow: Maybe a blown 350 in a monza! o No: :3gears: :bglasses: Chime in w/ advice, and info., or just tell us about some ideas similar to these that you have been thinkin' up. Let's hear 'em. :TU:
like my 1972 chevy short box stepside with 455 . where i adapted the chevy 4 speed and used a centerforce dual friction clutch .i drive it daily , its fast and fun :3gears:
I was thinking of doing a Buick powered 4x4 '66 Chevy Fleetside. The 4x4 trans and axles would probably come from an old beaten jeep my uncle has sitting around so I'd probably need some sort of adapter for the engine and trans. Unfortunately old pickups are scarce around here and my cash flow is non-exsistent, so that kinda iced my plans for now.
I see a trend here! p Ever since I bought my '91 S-10, I've always wanted to replace the 4.3L with a Buick 350. I see all sorts of folks putting Cheby 350's in...but I know it wouldn't be any easy project, and I'd like to keep the 5 speed and 4x4. I can only dream, since I'm working too many hours and don't have the cash to keep my Deuce in tip top shape. The exhaust manifold sprung a leak last month, and I just don't have the time to work on it.
i'd like to do 2 buick powered vehicles ...buick 350 in my rx7 and buick 4.1 in my toyota 4x4...but for the fact that they dont have kits for either and not definate if the buick truckwould passemiisons i'm considering going toyota i63.0 in the truck and ford 5.0 in the mazda....but dunno if the guy i buddy refered me to will actually want to do this for 1500 and if i eaberate more on the emiisons for the truck i still might get them buick powered..
These are all great Ideas! I kinda liked that '64/or '65 skylark that somebody had and put in a GN drivetrain. I think it was pretty quick too. I personally like the idea of something even as small as a fox body stang, or a '69 camaro, and putting in a 455 built to stage 1 specs or beyond. My budget won't allow for that now, but it doesn't hurt to dream big. :bglasses:
How about a Corvette? Would drive the plastic people nuts. C4's can be had cheap, adapter plate for the 700 whaterver transmission, already have high performance radiators, brakes etc. With the right valve covers most people could be fooled into believing it is a Chevy motor (they don't know where the distributor is supposed to be!) I think I am starting to talk myself into this. I already have a 455 that just needs to be freshened up. I have seen c4's for $3k (rough) this would be an awsome SCCA solo car.
I came to this site looking for a way to put a 430 into a first gen Firebird or Camaro. I never did do it since I could never find a good car to buy in the first place! I like the Buick engine in a Vette. The C3 cars are still fairly affordable and nice looking, and I thought putting a 455 in one would sure make for a fun ride!
Actually I think the C4 cars are cheaper. Not sure how much work to fit a BBB in one. I just checked on Autotrader and found quite a few under 5K I am sure that if you find one that runs crappy you can get a deal. Don't have the time or space but I do like the thought.
Oh they're definitely cheaper, but there's a reason why. They're probably one of the blandest style Vettes, although I do like them still. Since they came from a period of lousy performance, I'm sure a BBB would make one pretty exciting!
John, that be it! :TU: I love that car. That thing must be quick, and just from seeing that pic, it appears to be very clean from the front and I am sure the whole car is likely the same way! :bglasses:
I love the corvette idea, guys! Heck yeah, those vettes have hardly any weight compared to any Buick, excellent aerodynamics, and already have a ton of performance goodies on them from the factory. With a stock Buick 455 even, it would be a scary ride. I'd be scared crap-less to ride in one w/ a warmed up 455. :Brow: :3gears: :eek2: :TU:
i seen that special with the turbo v6 at indy, i think it ran 11s trying to set up a nonintercooler sfi turbo in my 65 special seen a early 50s vette with 3.8 turbo badges there also. there is a buick 350 ford truck on ebay right now check this caddy out .was fast too seen a porsche maybe 924? with a gn engine
You're on your own with the RX-7. However....Advanced Adapters has had kits for years to install a Buick V6 into a Toyota 4x4. Saw one back in the late 80's/early 90's here in town. That little V6 sounded pretty snotty. :TU:
