Please Help. I Have Only The Olds 307 A/c Compressor, The Stock Condenser & All Canisters And Plumbing Still In Tact. My 455 Has Headers, Convertor, Performer Intake, Ta-.500-lift Cam, & 3:42 Stock Gn Rear. What Do I Need To Do To Have A /c?
You should be able to pick up a stock Buick AC system from almost any car and bolt it on. You could adapt the existing system with some custom brackets. What is your question: Will it work on your built 455? Don't know what the cam is, but you may have issues at rest if your idle is too lumpy. - Bill
Thanks Very Much For The Reply. My Cam Reads .500-lift With Stock Rocker Ratio, And 286/296 Duration. Do You Feel I Can Use The Olds 307 Compressor?
I FEEL GOOD! A FRIEND OF MINE JUST TOLD ME THAT THE OLDS307 A/C COMPRESSOR CAN BE USED ON MY MOTOR. HE STATED THAT WITH MY BUICK 455's 10:1 COMPRESSION, A HUGE ALUMINUM, HUGE TRANNY COOLER, AND ELECTRIC FAN, RUNNING A/C IS FINE. ALL I NEED NOW ARE B RACKETS MADE UP.
On the Regal or any G-body the A/C compressor is the same. If you havent "broken open" the system, it can still be reused. Dont wory about fabbing brakckets, just use ones from a 80's 231 Buick v6 and slot out the bolt holes to move up the brackets to compensate the difference in deck height between the 455 and the v6. If you use the factory valve covers or the "angled corner style cast ones, you should have just about a , maybe, 1/4 - 1/2 " clearance between the covers and the A/C box. ( use good motor mounts!) hope this helps
