Buick 350 transmission. Will it fit?

When lifting my motor, I carelessly forgot a transmission bolt. Sadly it took out my bellhousing. I found a 1973 camaro th350 to replace my own for $25. I measured the top bolt hole to the top side bolt holes on each tranny and they are the same distance, however my buick th350 is much taller. Will the '73 camaro th350 fit my 1972 buick motor?

    Thanks,
    Mike the man.

All depends. There are Chevy only cases, Buick/ Olds/ Pontiac cases and cases that are "dual pattern" that fit all.

Short answer is "no, a Chevy bell housing will not directly bolt onto a Buick engine".

    Long answer gets complicated.

    Lets confuse you some more.

Dwayne- The top one you posted is the dual pattern style that will fit both.

Here is the dual pattern style in real life. This trans will bolt to a Chevy and a Buick.

That's exactly what I'm looking at. Is there some sort of adapter plate that I can get to fit it in there? I mean... everything else is the same.

    Thanks,
    Mike the man.

I stand corrected. The triangular piece at the top confused me. The dual pattern style has the second set of holes for the Buick pattern. My mistake

I just found this site... a chevy tranny to buick engine adapter plate.

Wondering if this will work for $50 heheh.

Side question, all the components will fit I assume in this new bellhousing? From my understanding all th350 guts are the same.

    Thanks,
    Mike the man.

The adapter plate seems like it'd hold. Anyone else have an opinion as I have not used one before.

    Thanks,

My friend used one with no issues. He was doing the backwards swap of a chevy motor in-front of a buick trans.
I'm pretty sure you'll need to shim (use washers) on the torque converter to flex plate.

EDIT: The BOP trans that you broke the ear off of, you maybe able to find a guy to weld it up and drop him a 50 for the work

Seems to me finding a good BOP T-350 for around $100 would be the best idea. Shouldn't be too hard. Save yourself the adapter trouble. Chevy trans traditionally been beat on harder than the BOP's.

I've used an adapter to bolt up a 700R4 to the Buick and it worked so I have used them but it does take a little bit of fussing. Converter spacing is usually the biggest thing to watch.

Anyone close to portland that can weld? The camaro transmission has only been run twice on the dragstrip (so the guy said) but maybe I could get more than I paid for it.

    Thanks,

First off just look in the local phone book for a welder... Second, any trans that has been drag raced could be damaged. Third, I would just do a 200r4 trans swap if you do not want to get the trans welded.

I have a 700R4 trans in my 67, and I use the trans adapter plate. It's been in there for several years with no issues. You will need longer torque converter bolts, atleast 1/4 inch longer, to account for the spacers that go between the flexplate and converter.
