Same thing happened when we were on the dyno with the single plane intake, it was jetted up higher and higher untill we ran out of dyno time. I heard the engine at 551 HP NA on the dyno over the phone and it sounded nice at 6500 RPM... 7000 RPM sounded even better!

My tip, is to leave the converter in place for now and try the nitrous. The converter will stall higher when under nitrous...

Either way, the higher stall converter will wake up the car.... And if you are happy with the way it leaves the line you can spray the nitrous after you get out about 20-30 feet.

Sounds good. Are you just lookin for for more of a lopey idle, more power, or both?

Thanks and yeah I'm looking for both performance and lopey idle.

The TA290 ground for the SBB is a split pattern cam I do believe (474"-226'/.480"-235',110') I didn't realize that the BBB has so many different cam ground choices so to specify the cam I am referring to is the TA290-94H.

What I am trying to do is build a top end that will not only be a considerable improvement over stock now, but also leave room for future power increases if I build the bottom end or port the heads. I feel a TA212 is too small if I end up putting 10.25:1 pistons in down the road. I definitely have the gears, converter and exhaust for a decent size cam I just want to know from experience will being towards the lower end of the recommended DCR range really make such an impact that I would wish I went with a smaller cam?

With all this talk I may just leave the heads alone and build the bottom end now if my budget allows because I hate compromises, although unfortunately a budget of $3000 for parts and machine work sure isn't building any race motors. Hard to find a good supplier for engine rebuild kits as well

OK, that makes more sense. The TA290 is a straight pattern cam. The TA290-94H is a different cam entirely. To answer your question, being at the lower end of the DCR range isn't that bad. My GS ran a 12.11 at almost 112 MPH with aluminum heads and a DCR of about 7.5. That ought to tell you something about the value of good heads. I'd get your heads ported as much as you can afford. That will enhance ANYTHING you do down the road. You can advance the cam 8*, but you may lose some top end that way.

Larry is right...you port the heads and it's a whole different game. The motor will feel like it almost has a black hole it wants to run right through the top end if that makes sense. For those who know, the heads REALLY do make a difference.

I agree, the single best thing I did to my 350 was porting the heads... The next greatest thing was twin turbos to further accentuate the engine breathing.
