Thanks JW for your quick and knowledgeable response. Would my oil pressure had been affected by the long plug? I've measured the depth of the installed plug, then measured into the hole to see how much is blocked by the plug and it is over 1/2. The engine had approximately 4500 miles on it and about 50 passes at the strip. Thanks JW. Buickbill

No, it would not have, actually the restriction would help the oil pressure reading, if your taking if off the front of the block..

Take a peek at the oil flow, from the 1/2 diameter hole in the front of the block, then up to the LH galley, past that plug..

Oil pressure is taken (in the stock location) at the other end of that main feed galley.

If you were taking oil pressure directly off the back of the RH galley, then yes, I would have expected to see a decrease there.

I assume it took a rod bearing out, and turned the big end of that rod blue with the heat, as well as the crank journal. Then you lose the bearing, break the rod, and all hell breaks loose.

Hope you caught it early. Having the starter pick your con rod up off the track and give it back to you is a bad deal..
