my brake pedal sinks to the floor when I turn my engine on, I replaced all of the old brake stuff . I checked for leaks, blead the new SS brake lines, rebuilt the drum hardware, installed 4-piston bear brakes (front),new master (CPP)-MCPV-1. Checked vacuum with guage 15"-20". If you know a solution please post a reply I have tried everything, yes everything.
yes, with the supplied syringe that was supplied with the master I sucked out the air from the four holes inside the master, while the tubes were submerged in the fluid.
Is the pedal rod adjusted right? If so and you've done everything as stated then there's nothing wrong with them. Right? Lets brake it down, did you suction bleed the rear brakes? Are the bleeder screws on the calipers at the top or bottom? If caliper bleeder screws are at top and your getting nothing but clear fluid at all four corners then the master cylinder is bad. No air in system and everything else was done then that only leaves the part that makes the pressure....................Master cylinder, right? Jim
Sounds like the master is leaking internally. Was it a new master or a new remanufactured master? I went through 4 reman masters on my 71. I thought I was losing it. How can 4 masters be bad? I finally found a brand new Bendix master and problem solved.
I'm not sure if the pedal rod is adjusted correctly, I have disconnected the linkage and put it back the way it was. I did'nt want to adjust it because I was not sure if the mechanic who installed the booster counted the threads on the rod and replaced it back to it's original position. My suction bleeder dose'nt as well as I expected (craftsman) the tube is dose not fill up with a steady stream of fluid when I build up suction in the container, as for the caliper bleeder yes they are in the upward position. The master is new and I dont suspect it is bad. Can you tell me the proper way to adjust the rod linkage?
I tested the booster and the pedal goes down a little after I start the engine while holding my foot on the brake. the check valve on the booster did let a little bit of air go through in the wrong direction when I blew in both ends of it so I replaced it.
I misunderstood the first post. Sounded to me like his pedal was getting sucked to the floor with the engine being started.
Devon thanks for saying that, the same thing always crosses my mind when someone says it might be the booster , no offense cason p. but I am so ready for some results on this matter so I can get in my car and drive it down the road. I am still waiting for a reply from SWAMPEDGE on how to adjust the linkage, that is what I will start with this evening when go outside to work on my car.
gotta go but I will check back later for more posts tonights to do list check linkage at brake pedal check for leaks bleed brakes (AGAIN!)
I would try bleeding the brakes the old fashioned way. There is a possibility that your suction bleeder with the "C" word on it might not be getting out all the air.
To adjust the rod. This will be the rod that comes from the booster into the back of the master cylinder correct? I wanna make sure we're on the same page. Have some one support M/C after removal as you don't want to take the lines loose unless you have to. Looking at the rod screw setting out 5-6 threads put master cylinder back on but just to see if it starts touching the rod before the M/C goes flush on booster, if not, screw adjustment out some more and repeat until it hits the bottom of the bore before it goes flush M/C. Then all you have to do is screw it in a little at a time until every thing basically touched at the same time. Simple. Do this and make a tool as I've done to bleed the brakes. I do a lot of automotive a/c work so I have a 6cfm yellow jacket vac pump. Now take a 1 pint mason jar with the lid and the band, (you'll know what this is if you're half as country as I am) drill two hole and fit with some sort of fitting you can put a piece of aquarium tubing on. Hook one up to a vac source on you intake and the other will hook on to your bleeder. See how easy. I can't post a pic of mine or I would. Would some one like to do that for me? If all else fails load it up and bring it to Douglasville Georgia and we'll fix it under a shade tree along with some of Mommas fried chicken and home made biscuits & sweet tea! Jim
Holy cow. Are you talking about the red car with the yellow top in your avitar? I don't know how to adjust those............I think you may need some new tennis shoes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe this'll take the bad outta your day!lol
At first I was thinking what's he talking about my car is blue, I had to take a second look at my avatar the Fred Flintstone car actually stops way better than mine, for now anyway. By the way I LOVE sweet tea and chicken thanks for the humor, and advice. I like those trucks my dream car is the jeep gladiator prototype truck it looks similar to yours.
Where are we with the brakes? Make sure the rod does not pre load the piston at all as you will never bleed the M/C properly. Jim
I bench blead the master last night while it was on the car, with my wife pushing the pedal I finally got some results. Pedal is still a little spungy but I still have some more bleeding to do at each wheel. I had to call it a night after my wife saw a RAT! (a small mouse) run across the dash board last night. I just wanted to stop in and say THANK YOU to SWAMPEDGE it was your suggestion to check the master.
