I've commonly seen the rear lower control arms "boxed" ..mine are. ..but does anyone ever box the rear uppers? Never seen it done, other than just getting nice aftermarket ones. Any sense in doing this? since I have them off and nows the time... or are they strong enough as is?

    Thanks!

Nope, boxing is an aid for stiffening/avoiding crush from installing the stabilizer bar, which does not attach to the upper control arms.

On my car the uppers are boxed. I don't know if this helps much with a basically stock drivetrain, but if you have them out it probably isn't a bad idea, especially if more power or better handling on a budget are in the works, as I intend.

That's a retrofit box job, not factory. I've been under hundreds of cars, and never seen boxed uppers.

I'd like to see pix of that...

I boxed the uppers on my old 72 442 by welding a piece across the middle of the open section. It seemed to made a difference in stiffening up the rear end.

I'm thinking of boxing my uppers too. That lever site referenced chevy 12 bolt uppers as being boxed from the factory, I don't know if they were or not. I went to the link for the patterns he referenced and they were not on his list of products. I may email direct to see if he can still make them.

I wonder if those patterns will fit a standard 10 bolt arm since his were based off of the 12? Let us know what you find out as I'm interested also.

    Tim,
All the uppers are basically the same, except some had an extra plate welded to the one side for added strength. These are the so called "boxed" upper arms you see on the 12 bolt rears.

None of the originals were boxed like shown on the website.
