At the B.O.P.C. Finals here in Gainesville, Florida, my buddy who I go to school with decided he would race his 1978 El Camino against my Skylark. I had already raced him on the street at a few 15 mph rolls and what not, he always won. He has a sbc 350, holley 650, eldebrock intake, headers, elec. fuel pump with fan, cam, lifters, vs my all stock 350 with a holley 500! It was his first time racing at the track, and my anniversary for the first time I raced, a year ago. So we decide we're gonna do it, get in the staging lanes, do our burnouts and wait. .336 light to his .056, and im gone. get about a car maybe 2 car lengths on him and keep it that way till the end. He ran a 16.318 to my 15.417. It's also funny because in our auto tech class, EVERYONE rags on Buicks, well, they can rag on him for losing to a BUICK! Ran 2 more times and beat him each time. Was good fun and he was a good sport, still one of my best buds.
Far out. Tell him his car is slower than a honda too. I had a EF SiR with a B16A headers exhaust cai and hondata ECU and I ran 15.7 without any simple weight reduction like taking the spare tire out or sub and amp. Lol
Congrats Michael - Sounds like some good clean fun on the track and great kill. back in the early 90's I played for years with a friend of mine who had a 5.0 mustang. At first both were stock and I'd cream him ... then he did some work and took the kills ... next year it was me, back and forth. Until he put a supercharger on it, added a tremec, and we gutted it down to under 3000 lbs - he was running in the 9's  but because we were good friends and helped each other wrench on whoever's car needed it he let me take it for a few trips down the track... nearly soiled my skivvies. Play safe
If I had the El Camino with all that done to it and it ran that slow... I'd burn it...lol Your Buick times sound pretty good as a stock 350
Ahh Gainesville? Several years ago when I still had the 350 in my car. During a wednesday night test n tune. I pulled up in the staging lanes and the steward(can't remember they guys name but he'd been there forever) waved a bright yellow corvette up in the other lane. Poser all the way complete with blonde haired girlfriend along for the ride. I can still see their looks when they pulled up next to my old Skylark in the water. They had the audacity to laugh at my old Buick and she even pointed at it as if to say, Honey look what we're racing. I waited for them at the return road. :3gears: They were'nt laughing anymore.
