Have a new boot for 72 Skylark. Also have the front edge metal piece with
the slot and 6 holes in it not mounted on the back of the rear seat area.
Can someone tell me where it should mount?
To the seat back itself? Or to the metal piece I can feel under the top storage cloth behind the seat. A picture would be great! Thanks in advance.

It does NOT mount to the seat.

It is held onto the metal area behind the upper edge of the back seat upright. Held on with 6 or so phillips sheet metal screws. You should be able to see the screw holes but you probably need the seat out of the way. Many times the factory didn't put screws through every hole in the metal channel piece so don't be suprised if you lay the part up there and don't see a corresponding hole in the sheet metal for each hole in the channel.

Thanks, think I see what you mean.
My top well vinyl cloth is over the top the metal piece you mention,
but I can feel a couple screw heads still there under the cloth.
So took out the seat and will attach the channel thingy.
    Then struggle with the boot!:TU:
Might be the first and last time it is on, unless I actually do get invited
to a parade and there is some good looking chick sitting on it!:Brow:

Don't let anyone sit on it. Chances are they'll bend the frame mechanism. The big cars with the hard fiberglass boots are better for that.
