Blower motor, how reliable, do I replace?

Ok, while the blower motor is out, tested it and works. Don't want to have to replace it ever.once three car is back together.

Do these fail often?
Are there good replacements out there?
Would you replace it?

 

Given how hard they are to get to when they die, I would go ahead and replace it. I did a complete restoration on my GS, but the blower worked so I left it in. Six months later it died and I had to tear into it to replace. I just got one from Autozone and it has worked fine for years.

 

Agree w/above. Going to be pulling the front clip off my car & going to replace (or have orig. rebuilt) the blower motor just in case.

 

It's a crapshoot.

Replace a working American made OEM unit for Chinesium and hope you don't roll craps?

Leaving that old motor in there to die when your window is fogged up and your on a crappy old, wet, two lane county road with a cheap Chinese microfiber "Smear-all™" greasy rag, furiously wiping, to try and see if that semi coming at you is in yer lane or are you in his?

I can't seem to find one new that looks correct.

Is there any maintenance you can do on them? Lubricate, clean etc.

 

I was going to check w/a local shop that repairs electric motors & see if they can refurbish an orig.

I thought about it & maybe not a bad deal really (another one on there for $229) but a little too rich for my blood right now unfortunately.

 

If it works and is quiet, I’d leave it alone.

 

yeah they usually make a humming or clicking if they about to go.

 

I would keep the original. On a restored car that has not been driven in snow or rain, it's not a big job to remove the inner fender to replace a blower motor if it fails. You'll probably be doing it anyway, only sooner if you install a Chinese motor.
