I am putting together a 455 fro the street and am going to block fill it. I need to know how far should I go? Would going to the freeze plugs be ok? less or more? I need to know this so the shop can get the rest of my motor done.
    Thanks Guys
    Doug:)

Do a search on "block fill". Plenty of reading here. I got 82 hits.

You might also check out the current issue of Popular Hot Rodding. There is a story on Bruce Kent's build-up for the Engine Masters Competition.

He did a 'short fill' on the block....he said it would be a good street engine. I believe there was a picture showing how far up the fill went.

    My opinion:

If it is truly a street driven car, I don't think you should fill the block.

How much HP you gonna make?

Do you have a TA main girdle? I would use one of these LONG before I filled the block passages. Especially for street use. Maybe just a "short-fill", but make sure your oiling system is up to the task of taking over the cooling chores. IE: several quarts increased capacity oil pan, maybe even aluminum to help dissapate the extra heat.

Not trying to talk you out of it.

p.s. make sure you fill BEFORE machinework!
